The Exocet XS is an MX5 based kit and therefore benefits from excellent handling and reliability.
Very similar in concept to the popular Exocet kit but featuring revised front and rear styling and a roof structure providing the builder with the option of adding a laminated glass screen and a soft top. The side rails are lower too and therefore access is easier and the sides can be backed up with clear or smoked polycarbonate for weather protection.
The MX5 running gear is retained in standard form making this a low cost and easy transformation from the 985 kgs Mazda to the 665 kgs. Performance is therefore improved massively as the donor is 50% heavier!
In addition to using the standard suspension, steering, drive shafts, and wiring we also use minor items to make your build simple such as the throttle cable and handbrake components all in standard form. No complex electrics, just plug the harness/e.c.u back in.
To make life straight forward the body is removed from the MX5 and the engine/gearbox/prop shaft/diff and all the suspension and steering can be left in place. All you need to do is use an engine hoist to lift off the monocoque, weigh it in for scrap value and refurbish the rolling running gear ready to take the XS chassis. Lowering on the chassis is a simple task in fact as the MEV chassis just bolts on to the same points as the body you have just removed. It could not be easier.
You can see lots of info regarding building MEV Exocets on here, hundreds have now been supplied and the XS build is a very similar concept.
