John.. do I see a new dash in your future when you get back here.. It is on the list but lots of other things to do first. Back in AZ October 5th, hopefully it will have cooled down a bit by then, still over 45deg (115 in old numbers) at the moment!

whats happened to the images I can't see anything! [b Don't know what happened earlier but I couldn't see any photos. Dash looks great, any chance of a couple of close ups? I don't want to use standard dash but was going to use for IVA but seeing someone else take the plunge might be just the encouragement I need.

Hi, just gauging opinions on exhausts. I was thinking of two options, firstly bringing the pipe just into the passenger footwell and then down the side of the car and exit out of the sill as per the original. Second thought was to chop off the existing tail pipe and bring it out behind the drivers side rear wheel arch flared in and possibly rectangular, I saw this on a jag XK120 and it looked great. The first option is a compromise and expensive, the second can use off the shelf parts with a quick bit of welding. Thoughts ??

Are both pipe options going to exit in similar positions? If not you could mock up for aesthetic reasons.
Might be worth checking any iva points first
Either way I like dude exit pipes

marmot0, the option of dropping just into passenger footwell and then sweeping round into the 'box' running down the nearside was the option I was considering but I do think your second option with the pipe exiting just behind the drivers side wheel is a neat solution and as you say straightforward using off the shelf MX5 parts with a bit of modification. The further benefit of option two is no hot exhaust sitting just inside the GRP body (some years ago I saw a Sylva with this arrangement go up in flames as a result of a super hot exhaust) making bandaging of the pipe a must in my eyes. I was planning to take mine to a bespoke exhaust specialist (option 1) but this will mean trailering (pre IVA) and even more expense.

IVA exhaust test is for noise only, if it has 2.5mm rads on any exposed part it will pass. If you can seriously burn yourself on a real trick looking stainless can, then... It will pass. You can easily burn the inside of your leg when climbing aboard though. If you fit stainless escutcheon plates around the exit holes these and the screws securing them need to have that critical 2.5mm radius too.

Thanks Stuart I was thinking more from an aesthetic point post IVA but I do have an IVA question the car has two horizontal 1 " chassis rails on the drivers and passenger side, my seat fixing do not line up with these. Would it be OK for IVA to bolt 2 lengths of 4mm steel bar to these at 90 degrees and then bolts my seat to these using 8.8 grade bolts or higher. Thanks

Just putting the finishing touches to the car, rear lighting is all complete Fuel filler is also complete, filed and polished off the sharp edges so should be OK for IVA, just the front lights rear bulkhead and seats to fit, then geometry and IVA proofing. Then all the fun begins putting all the period features on, as winter is approaching there is no rush so hopefully all the hard work is now behind me
