Hi guys After a month of searching I finally got my donor, a 93 UK with 106,000 miles and nearly full mazda history 1 month MOT and 2 months tax... enough to drive it and check for any issues all for £600. I have been driving it for a week and everything works perfectly apart from the brakes that seem pretty lame although I am used to the brakes of my BMW so could be that this is the way they are. I spoke to MEV yesterday who confirmed my kit is ready to be collected so will head up there in the first week of July to pick it up so now to start taking the donor apart nice and slowly and trying to sell some bits to get a little bit of cash back, although looking at the prices on ebay I may struggle to get a reasonable amount. Now need to order a timing belt kit, waterpump and bush kit. Has anyone ever used Autolink as their timing belt kits seem very reasonable compared to the likes of Eurocarparts but obviously cheap is not always the best way. Anyway updates to the thread will be happening in the next few weeks and no doubt many many questions will be asked so thanks in advance for all help and advice given. Dave

Brilliant to see another exocet build going!
Theres a few of us a little further ahead of you (finished stripping and on to refurbing bits before rebuild) so definitely keep your eyes on those threads!
I purchased the timing belt (and loads more goodies) from autolink-mx5, haven't installed it yet but the quality seems decent and delivery was quick!
Where abouts are you based?

Hi I'm down in Kent, not sure if there are any more down this way, I'll be going through all the recent threads to pick up some tips as I go along and by the sounds of things Autolink seem a reputable place so will get the bits on order asap, Cheers

Been a busy month, spent a few weeks driving the mx5 to check all is well had a nice holiday and popped up to MEV to pick up my kit so today the strip down began. Managed to get the seats out and all the centre console panels and the dash and got everything labelled up. I also managed to remove a Toad immobiliser which I nearly paid someone £70 to do so happy days, but also managed to break the plastic screen on the instrument panel by folding the roof down on it so will have to sort that out. When I removed the dash there were two black wires one either side right at the end behind the dash are these earth wires? I keep starting the car to make sure it still fires when I disconnect a few things, a tad over paranoid maybe

About time I updated the build thread properly. So i started off where most do with interior removal starting with the instrument panel and centre console. Then out with the seats and dash, making sure to label everything as I went along using coloured electrical tape and a Sharpie pen. Yellow tape for interior wiring and red anything outside of the cockpit. Out with the blower motor Next the roof came off and various plastic trims Followed by the carpet and door panels

I then started on the rear, removing the lights and rear panel... all very straightforward so far and on to the bumper which did need a bit of persuasion with the hacksaw and more disconnecting and labeling

I then started some bodywork removal from the front end starting with the lights and bonnet...nice and easy and then one of the wings...not so easy as it took ages to release the bolt holding it to the bumper. Also started labeling with red electrical tap for the engine bay Next jobs, other wing doors and front bumper Nearly ready for liftoff

At this point I invested in the best tool for this sort of work, an electric impact gun from Machine Mart. Around £70 but saved me so much time and saved destroying many bolts. This along with plus gas are two purchases I cannot recommend enough. I soaked the subframe bolts and went at them with the impact gun, all loosened with no dramas and lifted the body off with an engine crane. After this I removed the fuel tank cut off the VIN plates and called in the guys to take the body away. Didn't get any money for it as they picked it up but ended up selling a fair few parts which I'll type up at a later date.
