Afternoon sessions will be available on the booking system next week. We worked our butts off to get the system live by the end of play yesterday and ran out of time to get absolutely everything online.
Venom - so far this year our 100dBA track days have seen plenty of bike engined Radical and Seven type cars as well as full blown Race GT spec Ferraris, GT3s etc very happily belting round the track. So to say that we 'hardly allow any sound' and that 'the only vehicles that are permitted are road cars' aren't really accurate or helpful comments. I've just looked down the list for the next 4 months on trackdays.co.uk and the only venue with a 108dBA limit is Lydden. So we're not trying to spoil your fun - it's the way the UK motorsport & track day industry is I'm afraid. Hopefully Paul can come down and we can find out exactly where we are. Our good friends at Merlin are also happy to lend us their mufflers to temp fit and see what difference they make.

I won't be making the 210 mile trip so it won't be my fun you spoil...
Not when I can get on a track 60 miles from my house.
Hey i'm sorry if you don't like my comments. Bike engined vehicles with the engine covered will probably be fine, but the TR1KE's very nature means the engine is uncovered and open to the elements. It does come down to the overall noise I expect on the DB sound test? So even if the exhaust can passes (let's face it, if it passed its MSVA with it, surely it should pass the test you run?) Then the overall noise from the engine will be louder than the exhaust. So how does this affect the noise rating? Is it just taken from the exhaust point of view or overall noise emitted from the vehicle?
And surely it is better to know that these vehicles (some of which might be coming a considerable distance to attend) might not even be allowed on the track?

It does appear that the lack of engine cover could be the issue and I wholeheartedly agree that it's a good thing to know in advance whether any given vehicle is going to pass or not. Hopefully by Paul coming down we'll all have a better idea.

I'm sure people like Kevin will fabricate some sort of engine noise cover. But not everyone is as skilled or has the time :-)
Hope it's a good event for people and I hope some trikes get on the circuit to make mince meat of the non believers who think Trikes are un-safe :-)

I can see no way of making an engine cover to reduce noise without creating heating problems. From previous comments if if can pass noise test with later higher reving engine, then hopefully others should find it easier. I can fully understand the decision to move the moggers weekend to fit in with kit fest . If it wasn't for the low noise restriction I'm sure many more would be happy about it, but if we can't get on track, then Maybe we need to arrange something else on a different date. I would still like to go to Castle Combe and camp out to meet with other members catch up and have a few beers, but if track time for tr1kers can't happen then let's get something else sorted for some time in 2014 and still support kitfest anyway. Us petrol heads are a dying breed! Let's enjoy it while we can. Kevin has suggested Llandow in May, so if all else fails how many other tR1kers are up for it ! ?

I'm sure people like Kevin will fabricate some sort of engine noise cover. Along with modifying my exhaust to cancel out the sound of the engine I will re fit the white abs inserts that I made for the rear rad ducting, and add an extra panel to the higher part, it will also need the same on the left side too of course. I will also purchase some acoustic foam and stick it on the inner side. And if that doesn't work I will send ear plugs to everyone in Castle Combeshire

I know there was talk about it earlier on but has there been a mev only slot booked for the track, I'm not keen about driving round with other people but at least I know most of the most will be forgiving of my poor driving.
Also as it gives you the option of a promotional code what will the moggers promo code be, as you are charging for spectators of moggers it is looking like an expensive event already.
Myself £25 Brother £10 Parents £20 Girlfriend £10 G/f family £30
Was the beauty of curborough but oh well....... Hopefully we can return to curborough next yeah

Rich Hi Rich, I think we need about 28 cars to block book a session, the plan is to book the 11.45am slot I think.

I will be taking my exocet down on my recovery truck as it's not road legal yet and be booking some track sessions too always wanted to go around combe.
Don't know if this would be ok but as I got a mx5 as a daily thought it would be a good idea to show them side by side so the public can see the work involved in building them.
As this is only an hour from my house be a shame to miss out.

*IMPORTANT UPDATE*
After much discussion I'm pleased to announce that it has been agreed that the static noise test for bike engined cars at KitFest will be:
105dBA measured @ 3/4 of maximum revs, at an angle of 45 degrees at 0.5 meters from the exhaust tip (all outlets tested)
This naturally puts us in a better position than previously and hopefully we will get Paul down here for some real world testing ASAP.
NB - All vehicles will also continually be subject to noise testing while on track and flagged in if exceeding the limits on a drive by.

just been in the garage and refitted my motad venom cans. These came with a tiny baffle plate which is optional to fit in the front end. I know its probably not accurate, but with the iphone app at 10,000ish rpm it still was just below 100db.this was measured with the tr1ke inside my big tin box garage and the door open. Im also going to leave my saddle bags fitted on the rear bars as they are possibly shielding some of the engine noise. Plan is for me to go to Castle Combe Thursday morning, meet up with Neil, and get some proper testing done. I spoke to Neil earlier today and the sound test guy has a chart with maximum revs for all kinds of different engines, so no chance of telling him tr1kes only rev to 8000! Noise level is also monitered through the day on drive by meters, so we need to be sure before booking track time.

Thats great news Tommo, but I will still go ahead with my sound deadening for the engine.

That's fantastic news, that revised limit is same noise restrictions that the tR1kes (Atomic and MEVabusa) were subject to at Curborough, so unless you failed at Curborough, there shouldn't be a problem at Castle Combe nigel
