Afternoon, Can I pick you brain Gents, I am in the process of fitting the fuel tank. I have gone for the Mazda one after all. I have convinced myself that 100 miles per tank isnt great plus the added hassle of the fuel level sender etc. I am aware the tank needs to be separated from the passenger area and also needs to be prevented from leaking on the exhaust. Did you put anything under the tank ie a sheet of alloy or steel over the rear chassis/subframe mount ?? if not how did you satisfy the above requirements?
Cheers
Hec

Hi hec we didn't put anything under our tank just put it on some mounts but ours was a mk1 tank and was a pain to fit but I think a mk2 one fits better after discussion with alister who is building a black and red one on forum Where are you based

Grand, thanks for the reply. I take it there was no issues with the iva ? Mounting wise its no hassle I have welded 4 m10 bolts onto the rear chassis. Going to use rubber anti roll bar bushes to sit the tank on but wasnt sure how the issue of a fuel leak / exhaust would pan out.
I am in the far North of Scotland, half an hour North of Inverness
Cheers

I think I am over thinking this bloody IVA test, suppose is better that than build blindly and cross fingers!. Cheers Hec

Much easier to build for the test rather than figure it out at the end.

ok tank pics sorry as I just remembered to post them bolted with a bit of box section and earth strap this is how our tank looked at mock up we just rested on the back stays but what ever you do don't move the 2 bars that stick up from frame as this is where rear clam can be mounted ours was a mk1 tank I have heard a mk2 may fit better as its slightly different shaped al (rusperala) wiper assembly photos

Thanks for posting those pics of the wiper assembly - looks like the mk 1 and 2 are slightly different designs but that's given me a good idea of how to get it all mounted properly!

Our motor does rock slightly at high speed but we never use it high speed

Thanks for the tank shots. I have just done mine. I welded flat bar rather than the box section but the same principle. She lying on rubber anti roll bar bushes and nipped up tight. I was going to mount the fuel filter above the tank but have decided against that as I suspect that would be a nightmare to change when the rear cover is on.
Brilliant mate thanks.

We mounted ours on the side but kept getting a leak at the cap so we returned it to supplier and we did a deal on the one we have now but it meant we had to cover original hole That's why we have side scoops on our rear panel

Ok quick update on how our mevster and a upgrade or 2 firstly wheel spacers after daves concern about a slight wheel wobble we decided that these needed to be changed so after a chat to the freaky parts man we ordered a set of 30mm spacers . firstly about or old one air ratchets and wheel spacers don't mix so out with the old in with the new a dab of locktight and the air gun is now replaced with a tourque wrench so no stripped threads job done also swapped out open diff for a torsion one lastly the simplest job turned into a pain we decided to replace the thermostat as the car got hot so opened the bonnet and tried to unbolt the stat housing only to snap a bolt . out came the drill and tap the best thing I did was make bonnet easily removable
