Hi, This might seem an odd question seeing as I am yet to get the tR1ke kit but I am wondering what a tR1ke counts as in the eyes of Roadside Recovery companies - if I have a policy which covers any car I drive but not motorcycles would that cover a tR1ke? It seems a little bit of a grey area as it obviously goes through the MSVA but up until this year could be driven either on motorcycle or car (b1) licence (change is only for new licence holders so technically its still driven on a lightweight car licence). Reason for asking is I am looking to change my bank account and wondered if the generic car roadside recovery options would cover it once I eventually get the kit on the road... plus, once I have a question in my head, I need to know the answer Andy

Good question and not something I even considered, the fact that the tR1ke is not classed as a car isn't the only thing to consider. I have heard stories of kit car owners being left at the side of the road because the recovery firm would only recover normal production cars. I don't know how true this is and I don't intend to find out.

The only experience of kitcar breakdown I have had in the past was with my own under RAC and a friend using AA, both were just on general any vehicle policies and both couldn't be more helpful in resolving the problem or in his car recovery to home.

Dutch "wegenwacht" (= AA like) tow trucker who was picking me up when my battery was drained, was putting up a big 30cm smile seeing my tR1ke.
No discussion at all.

I have mine covered with AA, its a pain in the arse and if you find a better solution please post it, Initially I had to have mine recovered from just down the road from RTR, I rang them at 1pm, they sent a guy in transit out, he arrived at 2.15pm, he decided he couldn't do anything (I told him he was not about to take my vehicle apart at the side of the road) I explained from the first phone call I needed a low loader recovery truck, they said "we have to send a mechanic first" C0CKS
So finally at 5pm the recovery truck turned up and recovered me back ti Huddersfield (70 miles)
Thankfully it was a sunny day
I told them its a TRIKE, 3 wheels, driven by back wheel, you cannot tow it on the rear wheel, you are not towing it on an A Frame, send me a god damn truck.......
I pay about £8 per month
The AA do get there in the end, but they seem to have a lack of understanding as to what a trike is..... IE: 3 wheels

My tR1ke went on a a frame to the aa workshop. No drama for the tR1ke. Because of its low mass. I did triple check the car was in neutral gear.
