I picked up my Rocket kit from RTR last week and have got cracking with the build. I bought my 2 litre donor back in April so have had time to strip all the donor bits I need plus pick up a few extra bits. I have gone for a black chassis with orange fibre glass parts. Here's where I have got to so far I used some fake carbon covering for the floor - this definitely takes two people to apply Fitting the crush tubes did not take long with the vice Rear suspension - can anyone tell me where the adjuster on the bottom wishbone should be? Front and rear uprights fitted - nothing tightened up yet though

I am using the alloy uprights and will probably go for the Hi spec calipers. Does anyone know which would be the correct discs to use? I have looked at the Hi Spec website but cannot make head or tail of which will actually fit. Thanks

Hi ssmith Looking good, you're a month or so ahead of me cos mine isn't due til September! Can I just ask,is that satin black or gloss? I only ask because I have gone for gloss due to concerns over marking the satin finish with fingerprint etc but yours looks flawless!

Rear suspension - can anyone tell me where the adjuster on the bottom wishbone should be? Not sure I understand that question exactly but I have a tip for the rear suspension. Lots of builders have complained about alignment on the suspension and I have seen pictures of LONG levers being being used to get everything to align. Jacks build is a classic. However if you put the lower rear bolt in last (everything else bar the shocks in place) then it is real easy, I aligned mine with a screwdriver and minimal leverage, the screwdriver fed in from the opposite side to where you are pushing the bolt if that makes sense. see page 3 of my diary www.mevowners.proboards.com/thread/2342/nz-rocket-build?page=3Good luck.

If your referring to the rear toe adjustment, i measured from the tyre/wheel to the upper tube parallel to it, front an back. I adjusted until it was the same measurement. It just 0 degrees the rear wheels toe, This was good enough for a very stable 70mph ish drive back from IVA on mine.

Regarding the Hi Spec calipers I used them on the front with ST170 rear discs (280mm I think).
Also where your radiator will sit I notice there is no alloy floor? If thats not intentional you might one to get that sorted soon while you can still flip the frame...
Also consider vents in the floor behind the radiator (or side panels) so that the hot air can escape else it get toastie in the c0ckpit.

The ST discs only fit the RTR steel uprights I think. If you are using the Alloy uprights from rally design the sell discs that fit, either plain on grooved. Give them a call or check with RTR I believe they have the stock number.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I will call Rally Design for the discs and see what they say. As for the rear suspension adjustment I will adjust it so the wishbone is square to the chassis.

It looks ok in the photos but I have managed to ding it a few times already and the powder coat does not stand up to much. As for finger marks, yes they do appear on it - I am constantly wiping it!

Bob Hi Bob, I only have enough alloy with the kit for the floor, side panels and bulkheads. Is the floor there required? I thought it would be left open for cooling although it is likely to get quite dirty in there. I think I am missing a manual actually as the one I downloaded from this site does not match my chassis and also most owners builds on the forum are slightly different. I think mine is a 'new' type chassis

The guide on here is just that a very brief guide into the general order of the build. The rocket section is far better than any manual. There are literally hundreds of pics of various builds and stages to cover most if not all of the problems you'll come across.

The guide is laughable. I followed various build diaries on the forum to get me through. I did not have enough alloy either for the entire front section and have yet to purchase more to close the floor.
I suppose it is not absolutely necessary but looking at some of the research done on the forum suggests closing the front part of the floor in front of the radiator will help direct air more efficiently to the radiator. (review Mark Harnetts build diary).
Also consider you will also have brake, clutch lines and electric cables etc more exposed if you leave it all open.

I was told by rtr that it had to be only a guide, if it was an instruction manual and something was missed out which led to an accident they could be made liable regardless of how basic or even stupidity of the builder. Lawyers eh, don't you love em! Also if there was definitive guide which we choose not to follow and again had an an issue there could be legal issues there - this is my thought as I was typing. Follow the forum but also put your own spin on your build to personalise it, we love new ideas.

On the front top wishbones there is a large gap. Does this need to stay to allow movement or do I need to take up the slack with washers as I have seen some others do?

I was told by rtr that it had to be only a guide Hi, I appreciate it is only a guide but my problem is that I seem to have a "2013" chassis but the guide is for the older version. There are some mount points in the centre of mine that don't appear to be in others so I wanted to know what they are for. I spoke to RTR today and they did say they intend to update the guide at some point but anyway I am sure I can work it out with help from everyone here.
