Ha ha No not me, I hope no ones been using my drive while i've been out. quick up date on the Busa, winter up grades, finishing off and tidying up, some things were done just for the test and are not up to standard. Will now be fitting an auto blipper along with the ignition interrupt module for clutchless up and down shifts. Even though it's already real easy to drive, I just like shiny extras! I've also received my de-cat pipe now too, this will be installed for a rolling road session to set the map up properly, it's currently strangled for emissions. Bit nervous of doing this now, it's already Galaxy crossing quick and powerful enough to teach me a lesson on my second run out in it

We dont have castles here, only penal colonies This is Warkworth castle in Northumberland, I live just a couple miles down the road but there are many castles around here, Alnwick and Bamburgh being another couple. Some great little country roads and driving scenery to go around and visit them.

Managed to finally get back to the busa, didn't get much done but never mind, a starts better than nothing. Changed the cat out for the de-cat pipe, I am itching to take it out and hear the sound difference under load now but with them gritting the roads around where I live, I think I'll hold off until the new year. Still a fair bit of sorting out to do and electrical work needing done, plenty time to do it though so

Well got the busa out the other day for a little bit tinkering, decided to start tackling the jobs that were done for me to finish, which I've never been very happy with. Started with setting the cars suspension and wheel geometry up correctly, didn't take too long with a spirit level and a piece of string but she should go down the road a lot better now. The wheels were quite dramatically different and the tyres were already showing signs of early wear. It's nice to have the steering wheel pointing in the right direction now when going forward too. Next was the paddle shift system, when driving the busa it would always shift upwards no problems but would not always shift down. This would make junctions very difficult if I couldn't get back down the gears. I blamed my driving style to start with, chatted with bikers and spent hours researching hayabusa gear change problems, thinking it was maybe the bike, not having my bike licence I never rode it before stripping it apart. Anyways jacking the rear wheels off the floor and getting some help to drive the busa and monitor the gear change mechanism it looked to be weak in one direction. A quick phone call to kliktronic for a chat and they advised a longer lever, hearing the length of the one that was on was all he needed to hear really. The power in the cylinders stroke is progressive. Made a new extension with multiple holes to try and set about trying the paddles again. The busa now runs with the cylinder attached to the second hole down and never missed a change through all of the jacked up testing and a run around the block. The warmer weather cannot come round quick enough now, am hoping it's more of a joy to drive now as when it wouldn't down shift it was very depressing.

So after some 5 - 600 miles covered in the busa over the last month, it's unfortunately become quite blatantly obvious now, that the original bike radiator and fan is just not up to muster. When out stretching the busa's legs and well underway the cooling is fine, however rapidly reduce speed say for some town driving/traffic then panic rapidly sets in as a need to increase cooling ensues! It was amazing how fast the machine could go from normal running temp to boiling like a kettle if I got stuck in traffic. A quick fix for this has been to wire the fan into the switched live and have it running constantly, however this for me is a temporary fix and a new larger capacity alloy radiator and large fan are in the pipeline stat. This will also enable a deletion of the rad pressure cap and run solely with the header tank one. Something that probably should have been done in the beginning, hindsight and all that. A revision of the temperature sensor location maybe in order too. Besides a couple over heating episodes though and the front near side upright bearing shaft, retaining bolt coming loose, it’s been excellent eating up some of the North’s best country b roads. Another change, the rear wing stays have now been fixed to the frame with M12 Allen head bolts. It had previously been fixed with rivnuts, I’m not sure now if these were just poorly installed or just not strong enough but I nearly lost the rear wing one day involving a little spirited driving. The rivnut holes left were perfect size to just tap an M12 thread. The busa is still currently running the strangled map from the SVA emissions test. Having been out with a 2.0L sonic and a 2.9 cosworth Dax rush though, and no problems at all with pace (in fact unmatched with straight line speed so far) I’m still a little reluctant to have it tweaked. This will probably come in time though and after some track action, which we’re still aiming for, additionally hoping for a Donnington kit car show visit this year too.

Interested to see what radiator you fit. I'm going to be starting a Triabusa soon and they say i can use the standard fan and rad..... but would rather fit a larger more efficient one at build stage. My car is coming with the mevabusa nose so wondering what will fit under there. Cheers Adam

I'm building a zx10-r rocket and went for an alloy direnza polo rad nice size but not to big fitted a 10 inch fan, but no where near running yet so can't comment on cooling capabilities but it's biggest I cud fit in the space so fingers crossed. Jay.

To start with I'm going to look into getting a custom alloy rad made for it, to fit the maximum dimensions I can fit into the nose cone or possibly just slightly large than the bike rad but twin core. If prices come back a bit ridiculous though I was going to look around at what's available off of the shelf. Jay that Polo one looks as though it might fit the bill. I think the key is going to be temperature sensor location and fan to survive a set of traffic lights. I'll keep this diary up to date with any progress on this. Adam I'd definitely recommend going with the more efficient root right from the build. I so wish I had done now, overheating in traffic on a good run out puts a bit of a dint in the day. I've spoken to some big bike bikers now and they say the bike generally heats up too but they can usually keep there standing still to a minimum squeezing past traffic. Another idea we've been contemplating is putting a start stop button on, to enable stopping the engine when in traffic. Although I'm thinking the larger rad and fan should be ok.

I've just replaced my original golf rad in the rocket with the direnza one above. Went out for the afternoon yesterday, stuck in stop/start traffic and at lights and only one did the temp rise high enough to start the fan (98 degrees). Once I got going again temps dropped and were constant at 91/92 degrees even at motorway speeds.
Don't know how it will affect a bike engine but at £110 it was a bargain.

ive got polo rad at the moment (going to replace with alloy after iva) same dimensions, just thinner, and mounting as direnza above and fits fine in busa nosecone. some decent 3 core polo alloy ones about, common size for 7's, westy's etc........ Funny you saying about rear wing, was only talking about that yesterday. Wondering why they don't tap it - plenty of metal to go into. What power commander you running?
