Stuart please share the love. Welshy I was thinking about the sammio originally but really like the mev engineering which is why I was planning to go down the exocet route and have a stripped mx5 in the garage This is Christmas come early for me........ I hope Well your luck is in! MX5 is a perfect donor. Let me know how big santa's sack is. The DBR1 order book is now open, who's going to be brave and be first?

If I had the cash I'd happily be on the phone to place the order but I still need to get the mx5 shell from the the exocet and finish the superchargering conversion

Hi Stuart,
Any details in kit cost, and what you get in the kit?
I am very interested in this car, but need to know a bit more about cost first.
Cheers Mark

Price, oh yes, the all important bit. I have my head down and forgot to mention the cost or what you get. We are going to sell the first few at £4999 plus VAT. This would NOT make a good business case but I can't wait to see a few on the roads. We will include a shinny GRP body in a colour to suit you as long as it is BRG. It will be finished and will not have split lines or pin holes in it. The chassis will also be included and it will weigh under 70kgs. It is similar to the MEVSTER chassis but with out riggers to support the body. The chassis will be exposed internally as per the original so I will use round tube to match. The alloy to match the original interior will be included plus a not bolt and rivet pack with brake pipe and P clips and so on. My guess is that if you sell all the bits off your donor that you don't need that you could complete one of these beauties for 7K inc the cost of a set of chrome wire wheels at £200 each. The first few will also include the lighting set excluding the headlights as these are MX5 ones. The rears are matched to the original car made by Lucas. You will get matching chrome rimmed reflectors and fog and reverse lights to hang underneath with chrome rims too. Number plate lights and small front indicators to fit behind the front light covers are included too. So are the covers I will also include alloy rings and mesh for the front fog apertures and a bar for the front and side grille holes. You will also get fasteners for the bonnet. This all sounds amazing value, I might be tempted myself! £1000 deposit required please. First deliveries will be end of Jan.

Cheers Stuart.
The donor is obviously MX-5, but does it matter what year?
Cheers Mark

Sounds like a bargain Stuart - especially for such a beautiful classic
would you mind answering a couple of questions
1 - are the lines very similar - wondered if the height of the engine might throw the bonnet up a bit (although the original looks like quite a lump
2 - is the body in one piece (bonnet back - so no need to worry about hanging the doors)?
3 - do you have any pictures at all - even if only the development stages like mevster - pretty please

MK1 or MK2 are fine. The door shut lines are moulded in so the doors can be cut out but I wont on mine. It is much easier and stiffer to mount the body without worrying about door hinges and double latch units but it is easy to cut them out later if you got tired of getting your leg over! I have moulded the boot shut lines in too. the original only had the tank at the back. Stirling Moss used to stand on the seat to get in. Plenty of engine bay room. The lines are identical to the original but that depends which one you compare it to as they were hand made and vary somewhat. The rad on the sills is 300mm one and 200 on another. It is about 4m long. It was painted in dark blue gloss of Friday but whilst it looks great it will not make sense to show pictures until it has been fully completed with lights in etc. If anyone is serious about buying one then please ring to make an appointment so I can take you to our laminating shed in Nottingham.

I had the privelage of seeing some of the work they have been doing at MEV HQ and the BRG DBR1's lines look amazing, just goes to show the amount of prep work that must go it to these projects
I cant wait to see the finished article - reliable mechanics and classic lines. Im sold

Another successful MEV product for sure.
I'm glad there will be options for larger power plants. The original was a 3 ltr six.
In Australia, a late model ford falcon power plant would be awesome in one of these.
Similar in size to a Jag 4.2 it comes NA and turboed ranging from 195kw and 390nm to 310kw and 565nm! Transmissions are 6 speed tremec and 6 speed ZF auto.
Now that would be a nice edition to the shed sitting next to my 347ci and supercharged AC Cobra!!

Happy new Year I have been looking at the DBR1 on www.talacrest.com/stockdetails.asp?StockId=5978 and trying to put together in my head the sort of things that would look good in the car and I got thinking about the dash How difficault would it be to incorporate new dials/the existing dash/instrument cluster Any ideas

Well you could always get a set the same as the original Smiths gauges now manufactured by Cearbont www.caigauge.com/I have some old ones to try. I will be interested to see how the calibration works with those wire wheels and an MX5 gearbox driving the speedo. You can specify different ratios though if needed.
