Spoke to Paul @ RTR today and he had good news for me. It's just one week until I collect my rocket kit. I'll log my build progress here. It's my first build from scratch, so I'm looking forward to the challenge.

Great, welcome and I look forward to reading your diary. What engine are you going for, any special additions like the Omex ecu etc? Colour scheme?
Also think about adding yourself to the owner location map in the 'General' section of this forum (if not done already).

Thanks Bob,
I'm planning on a new 2.0L and the OMEX 600. This seems to be a good combination. I was very inspired by Leicesterkev's car when I saw it at RTR, so have gone for similar base colours (black, silver).
I'm on the map (M4 J7).
Time for me to get inventive and come up with some unique ideas for the build!
Something I'm going to attempt is a time lapse recording of the entire build! I'm going to need a big hard drive!

Good choice. I met LeicesterKev and he took me out in his Rocket, it was very very quick!

Welcome.. And I look forward to seeing the build progress.. In one weeks time you'll be sat in the garage with a brew, and the kit, wondering where to start lol.

Cheers Steve,
It will indeed be a shock to the system!
I've read so many of the builds diaries and my list of questions is still endless. Guess that just adds to the fun and resultant uniqueness of each build.
Can't wait!

haha, i would advise to sit down and have a good think about it first. the diaries you have no doubt read make notes of problem areas etc. and prepare for laying awake with ideas, while the missus tells you to stop fidgeting..lol

Well it's still early days however I've started a few bits: Had thought my garage would be a bit tight, however I see many have created great builds in much smaller spaces! Drew around chassis while on the floor, ready for first cut. This will be slightly bigger than required however it is easy to remove excess later (vs. correcting if cut too small!). That's the floor cut. It fits! Just got to drill, trim and fix. Still waiting for the rivets and drill bits to arrive, so on to preparing other parts. Put a tiny chamfer on the inner edge of half the bushes and on the opposite edge for the other half (i.e. I'll only be pushing the tubes through one way). ...and the bit we all hate. Cleaning rusty metal. Finally, here is the beginning of my attempt at time lapse recording. Hopefully I'll be able to create a decent video of the whole build by the end:

I like the time lapse! However, if I set up a time lapse in my garage, it would be the equivalent of days of recorded stationary images, followed by a smash and grab style flurry of activity for an hour. And a fair bit of measuring with tape measures etc.

Cheers Paul. I'll see how I get on with the hand tool this week and maybe get back to you.

Just had a look at the time lapse video, very cool. Will also be great for new builders to look at it once your build is complete so they can see it start to finish and be inspired!

What are you up to at the 18 second mark? You appear to be loading a series of black items into a drill but I cant figure what they are.
What are the settings on the time lapse?

That was just the poly bushes as I did the chamfered edges.
I'm using SkyStudioPro for the time lapse, with a picture/frame taken every 15 seconds. Playback is at 24 frames per second.
