Is it possible to come up with a mount for the batteries that picks up the bolts that hold the rack to the chassis, rather than the actual rack tube??

yep that's what i'm thinking made of steel attached to these brackets and the chassis members with rivenuts , will need some welding and fabricating, I'm keen to press on for now so I'll make this a development job for after certification

Looking for some help, i think i may have a problem with my driveshaft, wanted to get peoples view before turning it for real (soon i hope) The issue is the bearing on the ford shaft that usually is fixed to the sump with a bracket, douglas at westgarage made up a nice eccentric holder for this to match the diff bearing holder: its bolted to my motor unit however although a really nice snug fit (had to bash it in) the holder unlike the bracket is a horizontal bore so there is nothing to stop the driveshaft sliding out of the diff wheras the bracket on the zetec sump is curved to match the curve on the bearing, initially i thought the bearing surface was curved so that it was self aligning but i have read that this is also like this to stop the driveshaft coming out this seems to fit with the fact that this shaft does not have the ring washer to hold it place like the other shaft. I have come up with a fix i think getting a plate made to bolt to the holder with a slightly smaller radius that can slide over the drive shaft and bolt to the holder to hold the bearing: My question is; is this necessary? how much axial force is there realistically going to be on this shaft ??

Is there nothing on the motor end holding it in position? There isn't on the ford gearbox but you're not using that. The solution you've come up with seems nice.

the washer holding it in is part of the driveshaft not the gearbox the quaife diff is designed to match these driveshafts it may have a slot for the washer but the groove and washer aren't on the driveshafts i have, thanks for the feedback but do i need it?? i guess the simple answer is yes as if it does come out it at the minimum it would be a pain and could hit something important i guess probably ok for getting the shaft to spin ill fit something like this before fitting the half shafts and turning the wheels.

Hold fire, the lip on the ford bracket is on the gearbox side so it's to prevent load onto the gearbox rather than to stop it coming out. That said there is a small profile to the bracket so the outboard end is not the deepest part...

I don't think the lip on the bracket is to protect the gearbox or there would be a similar thing on the other shaft, I think it is simply something to push the shaft bearing against to register it in the correct position.
All in all I doubt axial load is an issue as the cv joint has axial movement in it but should not bottom out thus no axial load is being transmitted to the two shafts.
Of course I could be wrong here and adding some sort of stops or shoulders would do no harm at all.

We are planning the colour scheme for the motor unit and supports - aluminium coloured at the moment but planning to get anodized in the future what do people this looks best: red black blue

Black or natural aluminium colour I reckon. Red on red might not get a perfect colour match, which could look wonky.

Red often comes out insipid and as casesensitive says it will look 'wonky' against the other reds. Black would look best to me. Adding blue might be too much.
