I can't explore the validity of my above post, as I don't have the oem ford calipers, but maybe you can see if it's possible Bob.

So I checked with RTR and they get the radial caliper piece made externally so I guess they cannot supply un-bent ones.
Now that you have planted the seed I wonder if my local engineering firm can fabricate a caliper carrier that fits perfectly (already bent with holes in place) like the one that is already on there (which is re-used for the wing stays).
Have thrown the idea to RTR to check if it will fly and waiting for them to feedback. Last thing I want to do it get them fabricated and they are not strong enough etc.

I suppose if the cost starts escalating near the 50-60£ mark, I'd take the hit and order the hispecs from RTR.
After spending all the time and money, we shouldn't skimp on the essentials like brakes, tyres, and steering.

I totally agree, I don't want breaks to fail on me whilst driving.

Hi mate. If you wish to fit vented discs to the front like Paul, you will need to buy bigger hispec or wilwood calipers Like Paul has but these are bigger ones than the hispec ones that RTR provide. These ones I have are for Solid discs so are narrower. Vented discs are major overkill for this car so I would stick with solid discs Ned are you getting at my brakes are outrageously too much ;D, i wont have that..lol ok maybe a little bit...

Hi anyone. What diameter st170 discs do I need. The parts chap said they are all the same and gave me ones that are 280 diameter but they seem to big for the, calipers.

you space the calipers out to suit

Thanks. I am not sure how. Tomorrow I will post pics from various angles to help explain what I mean. These are for the rear ones, after putting the discs on I thought it would just be simple job of screwing the caliper on but the holes do not line up as the disc is too big.

Bob
I don't think the st170 discs fit on the rear when you use the focus calipers. The only calipers I have seen On the rear with these discs are the hispec ones. If you want to fork out a few hundred quid for them you also need the revised rear uprights from RTR.
if your using focus calipers on the rear you need normal focus rear discs, about £35.
If your using hispec calipers on the front then you can use st170 discs (rear discs go on the front). The calipers can be spaced out by either using m10/12 washers on the bolts or fabricating a spacer Bar but honestly washers are far easier and work just as well.
I know your pain when it comes to buying parts the best advice I can give is if RTR supply and recommend it then get it from them. I have a small parts store that I need to sell off because of jumping head first into Buying parts that were wrong.

Thanks Ned, that now makes sense as I am using the focus calipers on the rears and about to order the Hi Spec ones for the front from RTR. Here the image anyway of the ST discs with the focus calipers on the rear which is what was baffling me. Will now go and get 2 discs changed again. I seem to spend more time trying to get parts then actually building the car.

Don't want to teach you how to suck eggs or anything but the disc goes round the other way ie flat surface against the hub and the holes towards the wheel.

So last night I thought I'd put the rear focus brake calipers and disc on to see if all fits and then needed to put some washers on the calipers as the nuts screw in too much and scrapes the discs. Then tried just had to put the wheel on to see if it all fits. Goes on no problem but when I tried to turn the wheel it was very stiff. Noticed that the inner alloy of the wheel was scraping on the upper wishbone. I think this is due to the car being on axles and once on the floor it should clear but would like anyone to confirm this before I take the car off the axles. Or is there a problems with the alloy (they are the focus ones) worse still did I connect the wishbones incorrectly? Close Up with a minor scratch on the wishbone . Any ideas? Thanks Bob
