So I tried to figure out what brake discs go where and from looking at the build guide, no luck and most people have upgraded their systems. Looking at other build diaries I could not figure it out. I am using the focus calipers and discs etc so a standard setup. Can some one tell me which of these brake go in the front and which ones in the rear. Grooved ones in the the Front Flats ones in the rear? Both appear to fit front and rear. (also for some reason the grooved discs won't go in the other way round)? Whats the 2 holes in the plate for (on the side) ?OR: Also what the 2 holes in the plate for ?Final question: I can't see how either of the calipers will fit the rear RTR uprights as there are no holes for them. Can someone clarify please ?Thanks Bob

vented are for the fronts and solid for rears on std car, i think you possibly wanted solids all round. i may be wrong as im using something completely different and overkill on the fronts. the car is only 500kg so the 10mm's are ample. i would wait for confirmation, just box the vented ones up and return them if im right..

Thanks for a quick response. Quick question on the calipers as the vented ones seem to have bigger ones. Do i need to change them too if I get solids for front?

Hi bob, the vented disc will be for the front and should fit with your wilwood or hi-spec calipers using the caliper mounting bracket that you have fitted to the front uprights. The single slimmer disc is for the rear, fit it straight onto the hub and then use the two holes on the rear upright to mount the focus rear calipers using just the caliper and the carrier. The pic of the vented disc on the front uprights needs spinning around to allow the threaded stubs to stick out for when you fit the wheel. The build diary which i think at this point will help kost is mark harnetts, he has used rtr's uprights so this should help. it is difficult at times what with everyone using different parts. Hope that this helps you to sort it out. Wayne.

Thanks for the response. I don't have Hi-spec or Wilwood calipers for the fronts, just the ones that came of the donor so hope that will do?
Just looked at Marks diary and now see that I have mounted the Front caliper in the wrong place so will re-position it tonight, but noticed that they sit differently to the willwoods/hi -specs. The holes are on the wrong side so it wont go onto the mounting plate. Need to know if anyone has used the standard focus calipers and what modifications they have done to get them to fit.
Will also try to fit the rears correctly and post updated pic tomorrow so someone can verify that I have done it correctly.

Hi mate.
You seem to have got yourself into a bit of bother with the brake discs.
Firstly, on the rear if you are using standard focus rear calipers then standard focus rear disc will fit. The rear caliper carrier will fit directly onto the rear upright, then with the hub on, fit the disc and then the caliper will fit over the disc.
With the front discs, if you have the rally design upright kit they also sell discs to fit, if you are using The RTR uprights then I believe you can use ST170 rear discs, these are solid not vented.
The vented discs you have bought are what would have been fitted to the focus along with it's Calipers. The original focus calipers will not fit the upriights as they need radial fitting calipers.
If you wish to fit vented discs to the front like Paul, you will need to buy bigger hispec or wilwood calipers Like Paul has but these are bigger ones than the hispec ones that RTR provide. These ones I have are for Solid discs so are narrower. Vented discs are major overkill for this car so I would stick with solid discs And give RTR a call for the hispc calipers. Even mabbs with his 300bhp runs on solid discs with the RTR provided hispec calipers.
There are loads of builds running the same set up as you, just have a look thru the build guides. I run with the focus rear calipers and have several pics of them fitted. Marks build runs with the RTR uprights and the hispec calipers he has woke good pics of that setup.

Bob you cant use the donors front calipers, sorry to tell you this but i dont think that anyone has been able to use them, if you do then you'll probably have to look at fabricating brackets etc to hold them and im not sure if they would even work with rtr's front uprights?! Even the first built rocket had wilwood calipers, i know this cos i own the calipers that came off that rocket!lol. Good luck and hope you get it all sorted, Wayne.

Thanks Ned. I modified my post too just to say it does not appear that the front focus calipers will fit. So I am ok for the rears.
Will return the vented discs and figure out what to do by looking at more diaries, but likely easy option is to the hi-spec calipers from RTR and see what discs I need to get for them.

Also bob just to let you know, re. the pic of the front upright assembly. Where it seems you have fitted the focus front calipers is actually where the wing stays bolt to. Cheers.

I am also past that price guide but I really do want to keep this as low cost as possible for now. Anyway, what can you do.

See if RTR can supply you with an un-bent radial caliper peice, then fit that instead if the bent one. Fit your vented disc, set your caliper and carrier with pads in place, mark, drill, and shim it to the correct location. Maybe cheaper than those beautiful hi-specs
