Thanks for advice though all i can find are the letters BP which is all i can find on my old engine block which is still kicking around, its a 1.8 btw. Another thing is that the notes on the iva form state that youmust prove the age of the engine, ok if its the original engine as the v5 will prove it but if like me you have a different engine in then where does one find documented proof of its age?
What with what you were saying about making the car road legal it seems that getting through the IVA process is harder than building the bloody thing!!! not to mention as about as expensive.
Alex, Did you need to mot yours as another thread is suggesting?

on the first IVA we couldnt see the engine number, but the chap looked at the original V5, plus original Vin numbers and seemed happy, and suggested i cleaned the number up for future ref (if i could find it) although he did forget to put this point down for the retest, the engine number should be on the V5 and should start with BP-
In ref to an MOT i keep hearing conflicting stories. DVLA seem to have advised me that as its classified as a new car its MOT exempt for 3 years. they havent asked for an MOT certificate for tuesday when theyre taxing the car.

Just a note on the IVA for proof of age for the engine, if you cant prove the age of the engine they will test the emissions to current regs.
That is what I was told by the IVA inspector when my Sonic was in for its IVA.
For the engine number the IVA inspector did not check mine it was only when the car went for its DVLA inspection for registration that the DVLA inspector looked for the engine number.
I hope that this may help

Mine goes into the dvla on tuesday. So we'll see what happens as mine doesnt have a legible number. As for immobilisers, as long as the steering column lock works, you don't actually need one. With a bit of patience they're fairly simple to take out. Just unwrap the whole ignition section of the loom and there the immobilisers been spliced in, cut it out and reconnect the original wires, which are all coloured different so fairly simple to figure out.
