Exocet racing starts very soon with 2 cars now being prepared. Racing will be on specified shocks, wheels and tyres with a 1.8 engine (no forced air) and full cage with steel floors. We are at Donny today, the pic is of yesterday. Jonathon Blake is the man behind the Exocet race series. He is being interviewed by "Motors TV". He runs the MX5 championships. The MX5 drivers were very impressed with the Exocet weight saving and view of the wheels, and of course the ridiculously low price. Attachments:

Wow that was a busy day!!!!!!! Great bunch of guy's too. Clearly some were MX5 purists but many others really got it and saw the future b4 their eyes as an alternative race to take part in based on mechanicals they are familiar with. We reduced the length of the chassis by 300mm and added a bolt on rear impact bar, this stops tyre to tyre contact and can be replaced in 2 minutes. In the picture it looks too narrow but it actually comes within 100mm of the outside of the rear tyres. That car has wheel spacer adaptors which allow Ford wheels to be used at £65 a pair. The side pods are made of alloy as a mock up. These are now re styled and made from GRP again to stop tyre to tyre contact. Replaced in 2 minutes. They are an option for road cars too as they offer additional luggage space. Prices are; Side pods £45 each Bolt in full cage £920 inc chassis brackets Steel floors welded in £115 Rear nudge bar bolt on £125 inc chassis mod GRP dash pod to take MX5 instruments £35. As a result of todays sales efforts there will be at least 3 cars running in an endurance race in Sept. If you would like to make it 4 then call 01623 655522 Attachments:

I'd be interested in a Dashpod as well - I've just been scratching my head to try and ascertain the best way to waterproof the back of the binnacle.

Following on from an amazing 2nd and 3rd for Jonathon Blake and Alec Livesley last week at Brands Hatch (Nippon event) we travelled north to Croft this weekend. The race is for MX5 MK3 cars but the Exocets were allowed to enter on special grounds. It was clear from the qualifying times that those who doubted the performance figures we expected must eat some humble pie. The MK3 cars are stripped out and tuned to 180 BHP. The Exocets (MX150R's) are around 140 after a head skim. However the MEV's went so well that the race organisers decided that they should start from the back of the grid and be held for 10 seconds after the green light. What a long 10 seconds that seemed to me, poised with my little video camera. We later checked the on board camera on one car to see an 18 second gap before they were given the green flag. We then witnessed what must have been totally unexpected to everyone. Within 2 laps they had caught the back markers and by the end of the race they finished in an amazing 5th and 6th. More good news followed too as whilst the noises we heard in the pits were to the effect that these kit cars were no match for the MK3 cars we discovered after the race that Jonathon recorded the fastest lap time of the race. This suggests that he would have been 1st if he was not delayed somewhat at the start. Alec also achieved very quick lap times, the 2 were separated by only 3 hundreths of a second. Again going to show how close these cars and drivers are matched. The same thing happened on Sundays race too. This time a delay of around 10 seconds seemed to be correctish. Again Jonathon took the fastest lap time with Alec nono seconds behind. Michael Pearson also had a great race and managed to catch and take a few back markers. Fantastic to watch and a great demonstration of what we have achieved in a very short time. Thinking about joining in the fun? Contact www.ma5daracing.com or come to www.mevltd.co.uk for more details of the cars. Next weekend the 3 cars will be in action again. This hard working/hard driving trio will be at Mallory. I seriously recommend a visit. This time they will be competing against the best Jap cars on the UK circuits. We are not expecting a win due to the 500 bhp some cars in the race will be running but we have already seen Exocets show a clean set of heals to all 7 type cars on many occasions as the Exocet corner exit speeds are far superior to the 7 due to balance. It will be great to see them next week as some of the cars they will fly past have far more power but drive the front wheels. How odd is that? Shakey video here, shows the race progress from 18 seconds back to an amended result of 5th and 6th and 13th for MX150r's
