I have a mate who simply removed one of the front lower cross members from the front frame section and was then able to add quite a reasonable square section fuel tank up front. The engineer never checked the cross member as he made the original frame. He probably thought that everything was as original supplied... Keeping in mind that the Australian Sonic have an Australian made frame. I believe that he has added some heat shielding.
I added a battery and you can see the lower brace that my mate removed from his.
When I originally was looking at adding a fuel tank to the front, I made a cardboard box that was L shaped and held 20 litres or something similar and required the wheel and uprights to be removed so it could be slid in sideways.
