Hi everyone,
Can anyone confirm if there needs to be mesh installed behind the front wheels to prevent access to the engine?
I cant see any pictures of anyone ever doing this and i'm pretty sure theres no access to moving parts of the egine through the gaps. Don't fancy failing the IVA for the sake of a bit of mesh.
If you do need it can anyone share what they used and how they fitted it.
Thanks in advance.

Hi, I had my IVA last year and had heard about some examiners checking the engine area for sharp edges. I used some plastic mesh (think it was some spare I had leftover from my front grill). I placed it between the frame and engine.
I secured mine with cable ties, wrapped around the frame tubes and then through the mesh. My examiner never questioned it. I think it can depend on the test centre and the examiner (mine was Newcastle).
Good luck with the IVA

Hi, mine didn't have that and I passed. I do have infill panels at the sides where you can see the pedals though. Heard that some people failed without something there so I just fitted something anyway. Test centres and testers vary massively from place to place. It's all about interpretation on the day. My tester has been doing kit cars way back when iva was in as he did a previous car of mine back in 2008. He keeps the manual handy and refers to it when needed. The test took just over 3.5hrs but that did include a 2nd attempt to get the emissions done. Oh and I threw an alternator belt on the speedo test.
If you've not been through a test before, just listen closely, don't be afraid to ask some questions and take notes. These guy are basically having to sign off that you car is fit for purpose. If you get a fail (pretty much everyone does first time) then they talk you through the points and what they want to see when it comes back for retest. Retest is only on the fail points unless you've made obvious changes that would then meant it would fail.

Thankls for the advice guys. Fingers crossed we get a down to earth examiner. We asked the garage on the site to run it through a mock MOT and he was happy with it and said he'd drive it to blackpool now haha.
Suppose if we do fail it will hopefully only be something minor that can be sorted quickly. Can't wait to get it on the open road and enjoy the British summer.
