Hi all,
Just bought a Mev Rocket originally built by a forum member here.
On driving the car home I have noticed it wanders violently left to right at around 60 mph so I cannot drive any faster then that.
Obviously 4 wheel alignment is the go to but was wondering if anyone knows of any common issues/fixes to help solve this ?

Does it wander at all at lower speeds?
Does it do this on a perfectly straight, perfectly smooth toad?
Who built it?

At low speed it's straight but I would say the steering wheel is offset to the right.
As soon as you get to about 60 mph it starts swaying violently. Had a few brown trouser moments driving back from collection on the M-way !
Car was built originally by Andy Patey in 2011.
Thanks

To add to that on a smooth road it still does it on a smooth road but the camber and any bumps on the road do upset it vastly.

Sounds like alignment needs setting up. The steering is very direct in a Rocket and they are very light so they are easily pushed off line. Also you can adjust the damping on the shockers, I found this made a huge difference in mine.

Took it to an alignment centre and they basically scratched their heads around how to adjust the toe in/out. Camber adjustment not an issue but there seems to be no way to adjust the toe settings ?
Surely there must be some way.

The front toe settings are the easiest things on the car to do, it is done with the tie rods on the steering rack, if they can't do that I would question their competencies!
The camber is more difficult depending on whether camber adjusters are fitted, if not some disassembly is required, same applies to read camber and rear toe. All can be done just ease of doing it differs.
Castor requires some disassembly also regardless of setup.
Did they take any measurements as it was currently set? Would be interesting to see if it is far out or not.
Out of interest is your steering rack bolted directly to the chassis mounts or are there spacers under it?

Spoke to a friend today who guided me through a visual check of the components and from what I can see the front wheels are adjustable in regards to toe and camber with tie rods etc.
The rear camber is also adjustable but I cannot see any adjuster for toe in/out.
The steering rack is bolted straight on.
Thanks for the help so far guys !

I suggest you start by reading through Andy's build diary, even if it doesn't directly help with the problem it will be interesting to see a bit of history. mevowners.proboards.com/post/1067/threadActually some answers can be seen, picture 10 shows all the suspension parts laid out. The camber adjustment will require some diss and re assembly, later models had an "infinite" adjuster option which made this job much easier. Also a similar adjuster for the rear toe which is not on yours, assuming no changes later. Clearly one of the earlier MEVs.
