Sorry to hear your sad news. Keep cracking on with the build and enjoy it for what it is.

I now regret pulling the engine apart when not in the best state of mind, as I've removed all of the vacuum pipes without making a note of where they went - if anybody can help with pictures or diagrams of what is required for the BP4W engine, that'd be appreciated. The best vacuum diagram usually is the one on the donor car, if you still have the bonnet it may be there, otherwise see if you can find someone with the same spec MX5 and take a picture.

Scrapped bonnet unfortunately. No rush to sort the vac stuff out I suppose! Suspension components and any other bits I found lying about have been powder coated by Metafab in Cinderford. Started fitting my Energy Suspension bush kit and new ball joints. If only removing the old bushes were as painless as installing the new ones! Kit ordered a week or two ago, based on the lead time when I ordered I have until the end of October to get the skate put together.

I've done a few other bits and pieces but thought you might all be interested in this: I bought a 5L Zinc Nickel plating kit from Gateros plating to have a play with. I've no idea how long they will last but they certainly look nicer than they did to begin with! Still plenty to get through but it's surprisingly therapeutic. Here's a couple of pics of the process, happy to provide more info / feedback if anybody is interested.

Skate all built up with an Energy Suspension polybush kit, poly engine mounts, new bearings and ball joints all round, coolant reroute, depowered steering rack and a stainless manifold. Waiting impatiently for my kit to be ready now, I hope it's imminent!

What are the odds... we both used an icon as a donor and fitted energy bushes! The 6-speed is fun on the track - you’ll love it!

Tease! What are the odds... we both used an icon as a donor and fitted energy bushes! The 6-speed is fun on the track - you’ll love it! Hopefully mine will be built to the same high standard elsewhere too! I actually sold the 6 speed to a friend for his MX5 turbo (he needed it more than me) and changed my 3.9 Torsen for a 4.3. Unlocked a bit more cash for the rest of the build.

Yeah, the 6 speed and the diff go for crazy money. I picked my donor up for £700, the seller didn’t even know it was an icon or that it was 6 speed! I have (far away) dreams of forced induction which is why I wanted a donor with that gearbox.
