Hi all, I've been wanting to build an Exocet for many years and I'm luckily now in a position where it's possible. I picked up a 2000 1.8 Icon with just shy of 100k miles last weekend (some of you may have seen it advertised on the Exocet owners FB group) and have already managed to get it stripped down, I'm that excited! Here she is on Friday 10th Here's Sunday 12th And this is where we got to on Sunday the 19th My plan is to get the skate refurbished as best as I can over the next few months, and then order the kit at Stoneleigh in May. I'm getting married 2 weeks after the kit car show - what kind of lead time can I expect from MEV on the kit? I think I'll be needing a bit of a break...

Hey, we can't have two Phils from Cheltenham on here! ;-)
Lead time was about 8 weeks when I put my order in before christmas.

Welcome! Have you been over to MEV HQ in Gloucester yet? We're usually around playing with cars or new ideas. Lead time goes up and down depending on how busy we are. Currently we're at around 8 weeks.

Hello and welcome on board. Thanks! Hey, we can't have two Phils from Cheltenham on here! ;-) Lead time was about 8 weeks when I put my order in before christmas. I guess we'll have to fight for the position Looking at your build thread it looks like we're starting around the same time, it'll be good to have a local sanity checker! Welcome! I haven't but would love to. When / how is best to arrange that? 8 weeks sounds perfect.

Drop me a message or give me a call. We’re usually around normal office hours unless we’re out fetching chassis or GRP

Phil,
You might also want to join the UK Exocet Owners Club group on Facebook, it's great for getting rapid advice when you're a bit stuck.

Well I guess there's no going back now! I removed all traces of the VIN from the shell and still have the V5 Drop me a message or give me a call. I went over to MEV last week, thanks to Stewart for the invite. Definitely spurred me on and confirmed to me that I want one! Spent a couple of evenings dismantling this week so far. Almost got the rear dismantled, though not much has gone smoothly. Driveshafts are stuck in the hubs both sides, so they're going to work tomorrow to pull in a favour to get them out. Pulled a few bushes out using threaded rod but I've ordered a proper press as this method is slow and won't work on any of the tougher bushes. All 4 bolts holding the subframe brace on snapped. I suspect the easiest way to solve this will unfortunately be to replace the subframe. Finally, has anybody else had any difficulty removing the bolts holding the diff to the PPF? I've tried plusgas, a breaker bar and a massive impact wrench on this one and it won't budge!

PPF bolts - I apply a bit of heat using a plumbers torch and then get the breaker bar on it. If it doesn't go first time, let it cool enough to get wd40 on it to soak in (avoiding a fire) and then warm it up again. I

re ppf, front one came of easily, Rear ones would not budge they were clearly seized with rust. In the end I let them on and cleaned and painted the diff as best I could. There really is no need to remove it.

I drilled my ppt bolts out tried everything else would not move and then bought new bolts for it. If you want any more help ask on the facebook page uk Exocet and I show you a picture of mine. I did use £40 worth of drill bits.

In many cases less is more. Removing drive shafts and PPF is not necessary but if attempted can lead to more trouble than a few broken drill bits. Replacing bushes is often tempting but as long as they are not badly perished and the bolts rotate inside them then there is little to be gained from replacement.

Found a solution - sold the diff with the PPF attached for £300 (it was a 3.9 ratio and I'd rather a 4.1) and I'll pick another one up

Unfortunately my Dad was diagnosed with brain cancer and soon after passed away in March, as well as my wedding being cancelled due to Covid so I haven't really made much progress on my build. In the last few weeks I've started to feel a bit more motivated; he was excited when I told him I was starting a kit car after talking about it for years, so I absolutely have to complete it in his honour. The engine has been stripped down to the head and block, cleaned and painted, and built back up with new seals, timing belt, water pump etc. I'm now waiting for a coolant reroute kit to arrive before putting it all back together.
I now regret pulling the engine apart when not in the best state of mind, as I've removed all of the vacuum pipes without making a note of where they went - if anybody can help with pictures or diagrams of what is required for the BP4W engine, that'd be appreciated. I've not made a huge amount of progress with the suspension, here's the pile of bits that needs work before sending for powder coating. I've spent far too much effort trying to undo some of those bolts and getting the driveshafts out, if anybody has a press or friendly garage not too far from here that could help, it'd be very much appreciated. Probably my biggest achievement to date is keeping the garage tidy!
