Son and dog in a pretty tired looking MX5 Mk2 (2003 1.8) bought at the start of the summer. Drove surprisingly well but the sills look like they are about to go. Not a problem as we will be stripping it soon. We put the order in for the Replicar about then. Andy's been great to deal with kept us informed of when the kit was ready to pick up. Managed to get some wire wheels on ebay for £150. They need a bit of cleaning up, but otherwise OK. I had planned to build a garage to build the car in. But thanks to Tandridge Council, planning permission turned down. So until appeal goes through, building in a temporary garage in the garden. However, most of the MX5 seems to have come off OK.

Me and my other son, with DBR1/3 at Goodwood. Stunning. Picking up the body and kit at ANC in Plymouth using a Luton van. Fitted perfectly. I was really impressed with the quality of the body. I got the dashboard done professionally by an upholsterer in Lingfield (Vamped Upholstery). I think they did a great job. Made some louvres with curved aluminium. Needs a polish, but seems OK. Next job is getting rid of the MX5 body.

Agricultural approach to taking the body off the MX5. Body off to the scrapyard, I think I got everything off and I cut the VIN out.

At last another Replicar build Note the wheels are 14" which may give a rear light height problem (see various build threads), solution high profile tyres. Love the dash and louvres.

Second hand bolt on wire wheels to fit the 100 pcd Mazda hubs are as rare as hens teeth I searched for 2 years before giving up and going to MWS. We had original Mazda Fortec Monarch ones on the Deborah build they were 14 inch ones and we needed spacers to clear the front calipers on th 1.8 as they were only supplied with the early 1.6’s

I’ve put in the passenger side louvres. I’m pretty pleased with them. I made them with bent over aluminium sheeting which I shaped in a vice. I then painted these and bonded them into the GRP.
I made made a grill using aluminium tubing. I’ve bonded it with chemical metal. I hope it’s strong enough (I’ve used loads and added screws). Seems strong enough. Next week I’m going to start the brakes (which I’ve been putting off).

I’m also working on front and side vents. Going a different way (as usual) but one thing that did was make up a internal fibreglass box to stop any water ingress through the side vent, also blocks off the view of the internal frame and panelling. by -Tojeiro 74-p.s. For the mold I found if you modify a large kitchen roasting tin it’s the right size, I just need to remember to replace before Christmas dinner.

Hi Tojeiro, that looks like a great solution. I was thinking about building an aluminium box, but that looks perfect. In the original, you can see inside the frame, but the inlet is a little further forward (and the engine a little further back) so the view through the louvres is dark, but includes the frame on the passenger side. On the drivers side you can see the exhaust.

On the originals you can see an ali oil tank on one side.

Hi Andy, the coilovers are generic units from ebay. I wanted something adjustable so I could have it high for the IVA test and then lower it afterwards. They were around £180 and are apparently Tieftech.
