Purchased a '96-2000 gear lever but it looks different to that shown in the build manual. Is it the wrong one? Steve

Well it looks as though I can make this one work. Took the nuts, joining plates and rubber spacers out and fitted the focus rubbers and top hats. Looks like I just need to trim off the built in cable holders and I'll be good to go. Steve

Yes thats different to the one I got from the correct 96-2001 Mondeo, but the action looks the same. Mine is steel and heavy, so this one may be lighter. How much does it weigh? Can you see any date stamps on it?, normally dots in a grid for year/month.

Hi Stu The only marks on it are etched onto the side and are (illegible characters replaced with ?) XS7R-75? -6C 05.11.99 11H So it looks to be from the correct period. Steve

You have one of the optional gear levers that will work. The rearward position is limited due to the handbrake location. I suggest you sit in the car and see if the forward reach is OK when locating 1st. The lever can be bent if required and you may want to shorten the lever as it looks tall and may be a long shift.

Many thanks Stuart. I'll do as you suggest once I have the car in a position I can get in it. It's reassuring that you think it can be made to work.
