Hi, I'm looking in to building an Exocet but before I do so I have a few entry level questions about general ownership.
1 - Insurance? Do you find your insurance company refusing to insure your car or charging you excessive amounts or is at a fairly competitive rate these days? (Yes I understand its all down to clean licence & where you keep it etc, I'm just looking for a guide or if it needs to be a specialist company being a Kit Car)
2 - Car Tax, is this based on what the car was originally? i.e 1.8 MX5
3 - How do you find other road users treating you? (I noticed a difference when I went from a Mazda to 6 to a Mercedes Coupe, I became a target with the Merc, never let out at busy junctions, vans not giving you any room etc, I now own a KIA and everyone's nice again!)

Everyone loves our crazy cars, they wave and let you in but keep you chatting at the petrol station

Once i'm happy I'll be returning your email.

Small world! Kingsway got 2 of them in the garage, one supercharged, the other with a turbo sat longingly looking at the bonet You're more than welcome to come over and have a look, they're not road legal though.

I can echo what Stuart has said, insurance is cheaper than regular cars - go to the specialist companies, don't bother with the mainstream insurers they won't have a clue!! that goes for comparison sites too, people have different results with each company so shop around some. for example Adrian Flux have always quoted me ridiculous prices (read HIGH, over £2000 one time for an MX-5!), where Footman James have been ones for me and very reasonable.
tax is related to age of engine/donor - post 2001 cars are where you can be 'stung' due to the current emission categories
as for the road users manners, it can vary but most of the time pretty good, people cheering or giving thumbs up - you will always get the odd d*ckhead attempting to race you or sit on your arse when you're cruising at your own leisure (but no more than normal). you can feel small on the motorway the first few times especially alongside lorries and big SUV's etc. but that soon wears off as you can zip between the lanes with ease or blast off to the horizon.
