Are you sure thats not just the carpet on the centre tunnel behind showing through? If not, yeah, why?!!

Stuart has told me that anything the inspector can contact with a 100mm ball will need a 2.5mm rad.
He put mesh to the engine sides.
He suggests that you could put a bar across to reduce the gap to less than 100mm, as it would be difficult to round all the engine parts off.

Just wondering if an Exocet has ever been through an IVA test? Get the feeling there hasn't so someone going to be the guinnea pig! Might hang on and see what needs doing to the standard build/kit in case there's a lot, as I think theres a time limit on the discounted retake. You only have so many weeks to correct and retake.

RTR are putting an Exocet through the IVA this week as part of their IVA service.
It will probably pass first time (hope so...) but if not, we will learn from this so that when we IVA customer's Exocets, we will know exactly what to look out for.

took the exo for a shakedown around the block today, lightning quick now the timings sorted and the straight through decats on too. only issue is the rear upper swing arm hits the vertical shock mounts easily with the 30mm lowering springs in place, so may resort to the standard springs and see how that goes. getting bored of capping nuts and knocking on edge trim!!

Sorry to say Alex but you will need a cat for the test. It is very easy to cut a small piece off the side of the rear shock top mount so it clears with the lowering springs, we did modify the side plates after the first batch. Mine hit too on full bump!

Stiggy, mines a '91 donor, so was under the assumption the cats not needed? Ill give it a whirl, cutting a section off the mount plate, although its super low already so was thinking of raising it back up onto normal springs anyway, doubt it'd clear speed humpt at the mo!

I hope it all goes well for you Alex - living in Trowbridge, Avonmouth is my nearest test centre also so it will be good to see if there is anything in particular that I need to look out for.
Best of luck! :-)

if your over in trowbridge i'd suggest i take a road trip over from bristol when she passes to compare notes!
Good news today is that the EXO passed an mot. few issues to be wary of. Brake balance L to R needs to fall under 25% for an mot front and back, assuming its the same for IVA. They also need to apply a minimum of 70kgs at each wheel. rear mx5 brakes are poo, so came in at 100, fronts were well over. rear handbrake needs to lock both back wheels, mine only manages to lock the rear left. immisions, pre '94 mx5s dont meed a cat as the immissions are more lax, they need to come in at 3.5%, mine started at 9%, but with some tinkering of the bypass valve on the Mass Airflow Filter and we got it down to 2.80, which is well under. The chaps say a swapped airfilter will screw up the fuel mixture on the older butterfly valve sensors, so tweak the screw (i say tweek, mine took 5 full turns!)
One final safety point. dont drive anywhere without fully fitting and securing the bonnet. Its bloody scary when your bonnet flies 20 ft in the air at 40mph and nearly takes your head off! Fix it or loose it!

Sounds fantastic, I'd be well up for that Alex - just send me a PM when you're ready and we can get it organised.
Cheers,
