My wife thinks, I must be MAD !
Having read all these enthusiastic threads from excited MEV Builders it’s starting to give me itchy fingers. I’ve always been one who has enjoyed the build as much if not more than the finished product, and while I’ve decided on some final updates to my Sonic7 for this winter, I’m keen to get stuck in to a new project next year.
I very much enjoyed my drive in the Exocet at Curborough, but its not really a build challenge being the ‘cheapest / easiest kit car to build in the world‘ plus I’ve never been one for counting the pennies and minutes, so where’s the all important challenge for me to get that sense of achievement from ?
My quest will therefore be, to truly see how fast and easy it really is to build ?
My campaign plan
I shall restrict by build time to no more than 1 summer calendar month from receipt of Donor and Kit.
The car must be complete by the end of the month and by that I mean drivable and ready for presentation to VOSA for IVA.
Being a working person, I shall use no more than 6 days of my annual holiday entitlement plus whatever weekends my family allow and evenings after work I can grab.
I shall undertake the build on my own (one man build) but list any times that I’ve called for a spare pair of hands, like help removing the MX5 body shell.
To add a little added excitement to the challenge, I shall not build the car in my garage but purchase two walled styled gazebos or a small marquee, and erect in my rear yard. Thereby simulating the effect of a builder not having a nice warm secure garage. I also intend to see if it can be built with only the very basic of tools listing there usage as I go along. I’m also keen to see if I can achieve the build without the use of any mains powered tools, (Cordless drill only). Although if for example I struggle to release the MX5 body from its sub frames using a lump hammer and bar, and are forced to result to a grinder then I will highlight its use.
I’d be interested to know what you all think of my plan and weather or not its achievable, or even its a worth while Exocet ‘Exorcise’ (sorry about the pun stiggy)
