Just read the latest on Deborah build (2) and saw your post about the tyres and speedo feed adjuster/converter, did you buy the kit from Oz? I'm guessing this is the kit you're referring to? www.jaycar.co.uk/corrector-speedo-module/p/AA0376Noticed that individually the price is £23.95 plus £20 shipping from Australia making them £43.95 each in total. However a bulk order does drop the price. Thus provided I can get five builders interested enough to give me a deposit, I am willing to make a bulk order and sell them for £39.95 inc. postage and packing.

It would be much cheaper and easier to print a sticker (or visit your local friendly sign shop) with the numbers in the right place. Option then includes customised decal with REPLICAR on it, how posh, maybe cream background to match the one Sir Stirling drove, although he didn't have a speedo so scratch that !

I haven't done anything with the speedo yet, hoping when i get to test it i fall within the tolerances that were in the MX5. Problem is that if I need to do anything to bring the speedo in line it will only be a temporary item as all the gauges are being changed post IVA.

A few updates on the car, still progressing, just slowly. Just bit the bullet on the ride height issue and ordered another set of shocks from protech. I would expect the current set will go ok on ebay but a mistake future builders should be able to avoid if reading this forum. New shocks will be two weeks and hoping to get them on before Christmas. Also started the car for the first time in weeks and a previous fuel leak has reappeared, need to get a better fix on this as any leaks at IVA will end the test. No sign of the new seats, telling the supplier I was not in a rush definitely put my order on the back burner. This is the hardest part of a build, so close to the finish, weather has turned nasty, nearly Christmas, loads of things trying to keep you out of the garage. This build has already missed a couple of my completion targets so need to keep chipping away.

Happy New Year to all, looking forward to lots of passed IVA tests this year, maybe my car will be one. I am making a special trip this month to look at an original DBR1. They are hard to find, I think most are now in private collections, but there is one in a museum in the USA. I am in the States shortly on holiday and thanks to cheap airfares I am taking an extra trip to visit the car. I am contacting the museum to ask for better access to the car to get a bucket load of close up photos, they may say no but I am promising to not touch it. If there is an area of the original car you would like to copy but need a better look at an original let me know and I will try my best. I will of course try to get to sit in it but will see how the day goes, they do run this car occasionally so I am hoping they will not be too protective. The car is here: www.simeonemuseum.org/the-collection/winners-circle/1958-aston-martin-dbr1I am off in two weeks and at the museum on the 26th Jan so any requests by then.

Hi Mark,
Thanks for asking.
I managed to get a set of drawings for the DBR1 so have most of the details I can think of but I'll post anything further that comes to mind.
A friend of mine who is an artist (not the drinking kind) was commissioned a few years ago to paint one of the privately owned DBR1's cant remember where he said it was but I think it was somewhere in Yorkshire, said he'd take me there when mine was complete (trip out in the Replicar).

Has anyone ever tried fuel line compression fittings? I have mentioned before that I have a connection that has leaked previously and I am looking to eliminate this problem. Issue is the connection in the engine bay going from copper to rubber. I found brass compression fittings on-line and wondered if anyone had experience of these? They are rated at way over the 40psi the mazda engine needs and will fit to copper and rubber pipes. Anyone?
Think I will make this seperate post..

never used them mate like you say maybe a separate post in one of the technical sections I had a leak in mine when first fired it up but that was down to a failure in the rubber hose which was probably my fault damaging the inside when fitting.

Made the trip up to Philadelphia and got to see the original. Took some phone calls to the owner but managed to get up close and take a load of pics. Will get them all online when back home but for now here it is. The condition is amazing and i think this one has not been modified for road use.

Some great photos, already started the grey matter flowing re wheel arches (but I suppose I should focus on IVA before thinking about body modding!).

My end goal was to try to get to sit in the car but it was hard to get them to allow me up close and I was accompanied all the time so didn't push my luck and ask to sit in it, I didn't even notice that the tunnel had been removed until I studied the photos later, it would explain the washers lying on the floor.
