Just carried out part rebuild of a early 1990 1.6 engine with new shells and reground crank now back in the car and getting 4kg/cm2 on the gauge (import dash) dropping to just over 1 when left to get warm in the drive and fan kicked in couple of times. This sounds little low just wondered what others are getting from their engines fitted with the true oil pressure gauges rather than later switch type.

4kg/cm2 (HOW DO YOU GET A LITTLE 2?) = about 58 psi. Looking at the Miata forums it appears this is good depending on RPM. They all agree that cruising 20-50 PSI is OK, a huge variation, what I read was all re pre 95 cars with proper gauges not the later on or off type "pressure gauge". Oil viscosity will make a difference. May I suggest you give it a good run, say Nottm to Stoneleigh just to test it. Leave it for a week or so though b4 you do. 3/4th May perhaps, weather is booked to be fine
