Hi all! Been busy stripping down my donor but now that I have put in my order I thought I would start a build blog on here: My donor Doors off!! Engine bay starting to clear Wiring loom finally free through the bulkhead! After a fair bit of elbow grease ( and a wire wheel on the drill) ;p First coat of paint has made such a difference! Will upload more pics as I go, now the weather has warmed up a bit and evenings are getting lighter I should be getting shell off during the week or next weekend Ciao for now

Wow it has been a while since an update, this was the shell coming off about a month ago, have been busy sanding, treating rust and painting etc but haven't been taking many photos, heres what I have taken The shell came off just over a month ago Dogs trying to help! The light doesn't do these photos justice but will try and get it outside for photos this weekend. I haven't got many photos between shell coming off and now to show the progress but I am happy with how it is coming along. Lots of sanding by hand and painting but it should all be worth it Got word from Stuart that my body has been powder-coated and is ready for collection! Everything should be pretty much ready to take the body when I get it home as I don't have enough space to store both in the garage side by side... I realise that the floors need to go on first along side doing the brake and fuel lines but.... is it possible for me to make a start on the brake lines now? I thought about fixing them to the PPF spine but then realised that it might not work, with the slaves being fixed to the body and therefor up and down on the suspension = stretching of lines... ;( - unless I am wrong... please shout? Is there anything I can do now before the body arrives? Cheers

You'll fix the ppf and engine, subframe so to the chassis so that shouldn't be an issue. It is however advised that you hook them up to the chassis not the ppf as if/when you need to move the ppf (change clutch for example) it makes it a lot easier not to be constrained by those lines.
If space is tight beg, borrow, build some trestles to sit the frame on, upside down, over the roller skate.

Re to do now - you could strip the unwanted bits off the loom. Many advice plugging everything in and getting the engine running first though...I didn't and am waiting to see the impact ;-)

Havn't had much tinkering time recently but have forced myself back to getting my hands dirty by booking the scrappers to come and pick up the shell this weekend! SO...... What is the last minute checklist for making sure I have got everything off the shell before it goes....?
After this evening this is where it stands:
Stamped VIN has been cut out Screw on VIN plate removed Handbrake cables removed Fuel tank removed Roof removed Radiator 'hook' plates removed
Is there anything else that I have missed/not thought about...?
Scrappers are booked for tomorrow but going to move them to the weekend as I haven't got the bonnet off yet so please do shout soon!
Thanks in advance

UPDATE TIME!!!
I know it's been a while.... lots has happened both in the garage and out lol baby boy turned up so work in the garage has slowed down a fair bit, however, making good progress even though it feels slow at times!
Before I upload photos, can anyone confirm whether you can still see my previous pics or not? They appear broken to me but that may just be my machine.......
sooo: did a bit more work on the chassis before I picked up the body
body has had floors fitted and then bolted to the chassis,
most the bulkheads are in,
steering column is in place but not secured,
rx8 seats really didn't work which is such a shame cos they would look amazing but not to be ;( even the original mx5 seats are a pig to put in as the frame gets significantly narrower as it goes back.... so have had to strip all the workings off the sides and made a bracket to hold it in comfy position. next thing is to work out how I'm going to bolt the seats in...
steel fuel lines have been replaced with one continuous hose, they are in and secured running down the tranny tunnel, fuel tank is positioned and now bolted down.
wiring loom is laid out and connected in most places, just need to make a tray to store it all in under the 'dash' got some wheels but they don't fit straight on so going to get some sort of offset, (need to look into that)
erm.... apart from that, not much has happened.... promise to update bit more often in future!
Ciao for now!

As for wheels you can get some spacers we have 30mm spacers supplied by freaky parts I would highly recommend them if you are looking at that option

I have been linking them in from here: photos All my pics are on there. Looked into the wheels a bit more and its the hub ring that is the problem, the new wheels need to be widened by about 3.5/4mm to fit over the hub ring on the mx5... Its a right pain cos the offset appears to be perfect (which was a pleasant surprise) so using hubcentric to lug centric spacer could work but i've got a pal that works in cnc so just going to get him to bore them out a bit to fit the hub ring

I know it will be a lot of work but it is a real shame we cannot see the pics on here, is it possible for you to consider using photobucket and edit your posts? It's a big ask but not a lot of XS builds on here!

"not a lot of XS builds on here!" True that! I seem to be the only one... ha!
