So send the docs for IVA appointment and they confirmed receipt , just awaiting for confirmed date. Now busy sorting all the outstanding bits. One electrical issue which still is still a headache is the engine management light not coming on. I resolved the horn issue and that is working fine. Somebody mentioned the yellow/black wire provide an earth via the ECU, but when I put the meter on it I get 12v on the yellow/black. Bulbs are all good. The car in an import, below is a pic of the connector with the yellow/black wire. Any further insight on this please......

The black/yellow to the cluster comes from the meter fuse it then feeds power to the microcomputer, low fuel, check eng.lampfuel, temp.. The white/blue from check eng. goes to the PCM.. Check with an OHM meter the white/blue from cluster to PCM. it goes through a connector under the dash.. Is the bulb good?? does your fuel and temp gauges work. if you ground the wire to the temp and fuel gauge they should go full swing.

Bulbs are all good, Fuel and temp gauge works fine. Is the temp and fuel gauges also from the white/blue wire? Will check that

gnwnar; Thanks for the info. I've checked the wiring and I cannot seem to find a white/blue wire. According to the wiring manual that wire is on connection 2 on the cluster with the white/blue , but nothing on mine, it must be powered by another wire?

So I am starting to get the feeling that my donor was born without a CEL ...!!! I went over the wiring again and again and cannot find a white/blue wire which is suppose to by for the CEL. I've also checked all the bulbs and through holes for the bulbs and none of it has the CEL symbol. I cannot remember if I have seen it when I got the donor. Is there anybody else with MK2 import who can confirm this please? Will Mr IVA be happy with this.....can it be fail? Just need confirmation , so that I can wrap all the wiring and tidy things up before the test.

What country was it imported from?? Do you have a white/blue next to a brown on the PCM connector??

It is a Japanese import. There is a blue/white and a white wire on each side of a brown on the PCM.

A 'sparky' came to do some work on my neighbours car and I managed to get him in to have a look at the CEL. He checked things over and was of the same opinion as I am ; that there is no engine management light on the car. As the white which is in place of the white/blue wire goes straight to the diagnostics unit. So I think that solves the headache for me..?

Mine is (well, was ..) a 1999 1.9 NB originally sold in Germany, and I never saw a CEL symbol at the time they all light to make sure they are working (when switching the car on).
I suspected the previous owner removed the lamp to hide something, so when building the exocet I removed every single light from the dash (after it was taken out of the donor obviously) and checked all the symbols with a lamp underneath the dash to be able to see them all clearly : there was definitely no CEL symbol.
It's always good to know this is not an IVA issue though.
