After reading Steadfast's build thread, getting a ride in his car, and following his progress with the DMV and CHP, I'm finally ready to pull the trigger on the kit.
Unfortunately the lead time on Exomotive's website is now 20-22 weeks. So it won't be around until July. That's a really long time to wait for a car that'll take a couple of weeks to build. I sit here now trying to scheme a way to get one sooner. What are the chances someone will sell a completed kit or sell me their spot in line? I don't see them for sale anywhere. Probably cause they're too new for their owners to be bored of them.
What do you guys think? Put a deposit down and grow gray hairs for the next 5 months, or just wait around for one to pop up for sale?
How long did you guys wait for your kit (frame only, not bodywork. I'm aware of the production problems on that end)

I will be taking delivery of mine within a couple of weeks. I ordered mine at the end of August. The wait will give you time to prepare your rollerskate. If you are planning on going all out and replacing bushings, powdercoating the frame, dieting the wiring harness, etc then you will have plenty of things to keep you busy. I say just order it. Half the fun is building the thing. At least it is for me.

Order it and quit your whining. Most folks building in here have waited about that long, at least state side. Ordered mine in November, expecting it in March. Leisurely tearing down my donor.

I picked mine up New Years, took exactly 20 weeks. The wait makes it worth it, plus you'll have time to sell extra parts and get ur rollerskate ready.

I have my chassis but it's sitting in storage since I wasn't ready even after the wait. Painting, rebuilding parts, swapping out components on the donor will fill your time before the kit arrives.

I'm glad I didn't get mine as quickly as projected because I'm getting the newly design trans tunel, top hat spacers and the new ARP wing mounts. None of these were available at the time of ordering and I'm sure by June, they will have several other great ideas for revision.
Come to think of it, I don't remember if the new style body work was even released when I ordered....

Ya I guess I am whining. I sent an email out to FM. Is there a difference between buying from them vs Exomotive?

I went with FM because it gets you into the power club and I like giving them my business, they're a great part of the Miata community. Potentially there are sales tax differences, but otherwise you'll be fine going with either place.

Fm gives you discounts on their parts if you buy an exocet from them.

Fm gives you discounts on their parts if you buy an exocet from them. That's the power club I mentioned . Now to convince the wife that the stock miata brakes are somehow inadequate on a 700lb lighter car. And that the engine wants to be force fed. And so on...

Conversation goes like this, "Hey baby, because this car now weighs 700 pounds less, it is much faster. And because it is much faster I need to have better brakes. I want this to be safe so that when you ride in it you don't have to worry."

I ordered mine at the end of June and was finally able to do an "in person" pick up in early January although the chassis was done by early November/December. Place your order. Some people have touched base in that it allows you plenty of time to get everything in line. Lots of decisions and things to buy along the way. Also... With 5 months wait time... Your kit will be the most up to date they can make it. Friend and I are now going through the process of finding adequate seats for what our purpose for both Exocets will be and we just barely missed being in the revised transmissions tunnel vin split. The wait is well worth it. Plus order now before prices continue to go up. I really don't know how they make a dime off us. The product I received really is that good. Experience has been top notch.
Oh and +1 on ordering from Flyin Miata. I did. Second goat I've bought. Every $5000 they donate a goat. How bad ass is that? Plus power club! I need to find stuff to buy! This is a sickness.

FWIW I ordered mine on 12/31/2013 and received it early August. I really wanted to get it through FM, since it's their first drive video that made me aware of the Exo's existence. But FM closes for the holidays. Like actually closes, nobody answering the phone and email. And the price was known to go up on 01/01/2014 by $500, so I ordered direct. So 5 months is not that bad, and at least you know what you're getting into. I was told 8-10 weeks when I put my deposit down, not 8 months :-)

I was told a few weeks for my frame as well. It turned out to be much (much) longer. This does give you plenty of time to get the rollerskate in order. For the price, even with the price increase, I don't know of anything else than can bring equal smiles per dollar that the Exocet can.
