This thread contains Important Builder Guidance and is 'stickied' so it stays there for all to see. It represents information gleaned primarily from owner builds that have met and surmounted unforseen obstacles. It will be of great help. (Further information)
Important - to be read in conjunction with the Sonic build guide.
- The fuel tank pump assembly should be sealed correctly and base pump plate used when fitted in the fuel tank.
- A fuel pump inertia cut off switch should be fitted as standard.
- Correct suspension setup and especially steering geometry is a key element of the build consideration and should be addressed accordingly by the builder.
- Builders should check the front top & bottom ball joints do not reach binding point when suspension reaches it's travel limit. This is checked by removing the springs and refitting the shock, then push the shock up to it's bump stop and down to full droop ensuring there is still easy articulation movement in the ball joints.
The correct taper and thread length is of paramount safety importance. I urge all MEV enthusiasts to be on the lookout for joints without enough thread through the nyloc. ..........
These parts are from the 60's and so the original Quinton Hazel parts are no longer available but are now made in China and supplied by Rally Design.
Top ball joints for most kit cars are from a 1969-1982 Ford Transit, Ford part number 17996516, Or QH number QD1117 RHT (right hand thread).
Bottom ball joints for most kit cars are from a 1965-1984 Austin Maxi, QH part number QSJ602

Check product 'Build Guide' for further information on these important issues. If not covered therein, research relevant thread in the 'Technical Section' for unofficial guidance.
