Hi all,
I'm planning on starting an Exocet XS build later this year, but trying to make sure I start off on the right foot with the correct donor. I'm posting this question in here as I'm hoping to draw on the experience of you people who've already built an Exocet.
Really I'm looking for opinions on whether a 5 speed or 6 speed box suits the car with a std engine (not blown). I've driven both as road cars and to be honest prefer the 5 speed. But considering the weight reduction from the road mx5 to the Exocet I'm sure there are differences in how the gearing affects the car and its driveability. If it matters, the car is planned to be mainly for track use (Oulton Park being my nearest).
Please can you share your own experiences and thoughts? Especially interested to hear from anybody who may have driven both.
Thanks Pete

it depends on what ratio diff you fit too as in standard 5 speed is 4.1 with the exception of MK1 RS LTD which is 4.3 6 speeds have either 3.9 or 3.6
there is a 4.6 available to
on top of this there is the replacement factor 5 speed £50 upwards 6 speed £250 upwards
in an jdeal world don't fit any diff from a car after 2001 as they went to the super fuji LSD which falls apart inside & eats it's self
