Are the standard focus handbrake cables the right way to go ?

I'm sure I used Standard Focus hand brake cables on my build.

I think that's what most people use, I certainly did. I used the standard focus rear brake callipers though, What rear callipers are you using?

A good read through a few build threads from start to finish will give you a very good idea of how everything works and was done. KiwiCanFly's build is very in depth and well worth a few (many) hours to read through it all.

I need HiSpec’s handbrake cable to match the Caliper.

Mine were supplied new by RTR, as far as I know they were standard Focus cables and Hispec calipers.
I replied them last year, as one was sticking, with a set made to measure.
I don't think the fittings on Hispec are anything special, can't recall a post were anyone has had problems.

trying to get the rear end finished off, drive, brakes and handbrake. Got the right cables and pads from HiSPec who were great. The longer driveshaft is now fitted after getting a 1.8 bearing carrier for it. The shorter driveshaft seems too long when fitted - i cant get it back together. I will take if off the bottom and see how it fits... then final cable routing. The calipers were on upside down according to HiSpec. The water could get into them before - strangely they don't want to fit swapping them over. Hope to have some time at the weekend to strip it down and rebuild, hopefully everything fits without too much hassle.

The long shaft simply slides in and is held in place by the bearing carrier but the short is retained by a "clip" inside the gearbox. Thus you need to persuade it in with a knocking tool. If you have not done that it will seem too long.
Out of interest which way round should the calipers be according to HiSpec?

HiSpec suggest the handbrake lever at the bottom and cable pulling up. This way any water drains out the bottom. The calipers I am sure are bisexual but mine only fit with the handbrake at the top - so water could get in but the only way they fit.

Mmmm interesting, I and most others I've seen install them with the handbrake at the top.
My cables seized and the guy who supplied replacements commented that water had got in to them (cables not calipers) worth a think I reckon.

I always thought the thing to ensure was that the bleed nipples faced up, so air would want to escape?

My HiSpec rears have nipples top and bottom

I think he said he used standard focus handbrake cables, I assumed that meant he was using Focus / Lucas rear calipers, which would only have one set, but of course, Hispec and Wilwood fronts would have two sets of bleed nipples.

The build moves on ... Handbrake is all finished with the HighSpec cables. Gear linkage is in, need a connector for the clutch hydraulics and then I can bleed the brakes and clutch. Engine loom is in. Starter cables are connected.Fuel system mocked up and removed. Cooling all finished except the expansion tank - I bought one with only one inlet ... I need two. Need to get the main loom in soon, but tempted to get some power (via a relay)to the fuel pump and try and start it !! I have a fair bit of set up of the Omex 600 once I can power it. I will get around to uploading photos soon
