I have now got the rear of the car back together, I just need to decide how to bond the chrome ring around the fog light, I have found the lights a little difficult to mount as they want to sit flat and the apetures are curved so I may make up some alloy plinths for them to sit on I am now trying to decide what tyre sizes to go with, I am think 175/70/50 might be good but would be interested in other peoples side profile shots to see what looks right, at the moment I have 185/50/15 which is way to low profile.

It is a beautiful, deep silver. You've done a cracking job and I look forward to a chance to see it in the flesh.

Thanks for the comments. After having seen other people's efforts I think I will revisit the side strakes and I may go for louvers and keep the horizontal bar

Now that it is too miserable to go out in the garage I am making preparations to start on the interior and final detailing. I am starting by replacing the seats, I manged to pick up an original Jaguar XK140 seat that I will rip apart and make up the templates to make the frame and templates for the leather. I have ordered a couple of dark red leather hides to re-trim all the interior, I am planning on boxing everything in and hiding all exposed fiberglass. Anyway here is the sacrificial seat.

Seems sacrilege to kill an original though...

Just managing to grab a few hours here and there in the garage, so made a start at the front of the car, originally I had not put headlight bowls in which turned out to be a bad idea as this area gets a good soaking from the wheels, so I bought a couple plastic Wipac units and fitted the mx5 light units to them. Now the headlights are all sealed, I also polished up the alloy intake surrounds, side strakes will get the same treatment. I will be making up some ali surrounds to trim the edge of the headlight cover say an inch wide and then paint the same colour as the car:

Santa was very generous this year and brought some new shoes for the car , they are Vredestein sprint classic 175/70/15, which I think are just about as large as you can get away with. At least I have now got a sensible ride height.

I think so. And just enough clearance on full bounce/droop and lock etc

I have started playing around with bonnet fixings, the leather straps do hold the bonnet down but it does start to lift at motorway speeds. I like the look of the old style Ferrari bonnet catches but the cheapest I have found are £400 not sure this is the way to go yet so I have re-used existing holes to mock it up,

How about a pair of small key lock flush mount hood pins with the leather belt on top to hide them..
