Hmm your tyres look exactly what we're looking for but for 14 inch rim (hence the room for the larger size) shame. Coulda had a sale.

Ah well. I think this sort of profile would probably work on a14 inch wheel. Cheers

Just fitted a stainless steel down pipe and central section to the exhaust in preparation for taking the car to get the backbox made up, I have also started trimming the thingy pit, I have started by fitting quilted leather to the trans tunnel.

Whole thing continues to look brilliant. The dash is great. Full of clobber. With using the donor binnacle ours looks a bit minimal compared. Maybe something to look at after we get it fully on the road.

Thanks. If you do go for gauges go for 100 mm ones and cut out the back of the dash to fit. I think this would look more authentic.

cockpit looks excellent and really does look the part. Not sure I get the last comment about going for 100mm gauges and cut back of dash to fit (can you explain a little more?).
Progress by others really is giving me the incentive to brave the workshop, even without heating or light, to get on with the thing now that the snow has all but gone and I can get out of the farm.

R25, the bulge for the gauges in the dash is very shallow so even getting 80 mm gauges is a very tight squeeze and they have to be mounted lower down than ideal, if you cut the back of the bulge out you could fit 100 mm ones and then make good the rear of the dash, it is hidden behind the flyscreen anyway. I get it thanks for the clarification. How easy did you find the wiring, is it fairly straightforward to connect the Mazda loom to the various switches gauges? Anything particular to look out for?
My donor has an alarm fitted and I haven't got a clue how to remove it (don't have original wiring diagram for same) so simply going to connect back up what I took off (minus wiper, heater, abs stuff etc.. will just leave all these sockets in the loom to avoid any problems but tape them over to keep out moisture).

The gauges were not complicated to fit. You just need to provide them with volts and earth. Etb matched mx5 fuel sender and the tacho took the feed from the ecu. With the loom I took off all the tape and cut out everything I did not use. This was around 50 hours work but worth it in the end as I ended up with 2 large boxes full of unused wire

Great looking car! Just a thought - if you race it I think the steering wheel would have to be changed. The MSA don't like wood.

Hi, sorry for the lack of posts in recent months but I have been having far too much fun driving it The car gets great reactions wherever it goes. I am going to start preparing for paint, I would like to get rid of all the 'fake' shutlines first , boot doors etc... any ideas what sort of filler I should be using as I have no idea what resin was used. Cheers

marmot0 shouldn't be an issue as long as you provide strong key by prepping 'grooves'. you could open them up a little, wider V, if you want a better key but you can go either GRP filler (more rigid) or flexible body filler. I'd go flexible filler but I can see how others might say GRP.
I'd use a really coarse paper to provide the key even going as rough as 80 grit. The thing to remember with bodywork 'the better the prep the better the finish'.
What colour are you going for?

Just fitted the mx5 parts dual tip exhaust, now it certainly sounds like it means business!! I have cut the outlets off and getting some new outlets welded on on Friday. I am going to bring the two outlets towards the middle spaced 30 cm apart in 80 mm stainless slash cut. pictures to follow. I have also bought myself a sheet of 5mm clear polycarbonate to redo the windscreen as I am not keen on the smoked one, it also needs to be 2cm taller to stop my hat blowing off.
