We have now expanded our Exocet tools to include a wind tunnel. Also, warning that does not come with a kit, you will attract small children that think you have build a mobile jungle gym! Okay, conversion to trackday mode with new aluminum radiator emergency transplant. Had to go with an aftermarket fan to clear the intake due to the thicker radiator. Race seat fits like a glove and used eyebolt to add the 3 inch belts for quick conversion back to street mode.
Arrived at track ready for our first high speed test. The local Porsche club lets us other brands come and play with them. I think we have most of the PCA officers owning Miata's now anyway:) We again attracted a crowd. Some were guessing its a Ariel Atom on the trailer! But, Gene and I failed tech. We found out we must have fenders. We have seen other open wheel cars on PCA track days, but those were SMMR club members using the track, not PCA event drivers. So, Gene and I went to our backup plan, a couple of stock Miata's, it always helps to have backups. They are a little rough since we have spent our time on the Exocets. We broke one, so Gene saved the weekend by letting us share one car... Thanks Gene! We still had fun, but will be giving Exomotive a call this week to see if the brackets are at least available so we will fabricate fenders if we have to. Stay tuned...

If you and Gene could choose different wheels, tires, would you make different choices?

Windshield idea came from the side by side atv's. Go to ebay and you will see plenty of them for sale. They all use 3/16 Lexan and clamps to hold them to the roll bar. I just drew up the size and 60 degree bends and a local plastic shop made it for me. Did not get to fancy, might make a change or too when the bodywork shows up. My son came up with the idea of the rods for the top support, I was planning on just bending a piece of aluminum strap. Need to find a picture of Gene's windsheilds, he came up with a totally different design.
Love my wheels, price is important to me as you can see with two kid autocrossing and doing track days and driver education events with me, it can get expensive supporting 3 cars and them going to college too. The best thing I have going is everything interchanges between our cars. I buy used Spec Miata tires by the pallet out of Wisconsin:) If I had a bigger budget, would go with the lightest wheels I could find and new wider Hoosier autocross compound.

What size Ultrashield seat is that? I am planning on using Ultrashield seats in mine just wondering how wide I can go with their seat?

Thanks for the SEMA pictures. That tool looks real handy and these fenders are gorgeous. I hope the CF fenders offered by Exomotive are this good looking!

2015 update! Must add spacers. They weigh 3 lbs each, but I want to have wheels that will work on my stock Miata's too. They sure change the steering feel. Takes a while to get use to it and road imperfection cause a slight pull. The spacers are 1.5 inch.
Before picture after picture The spacers, I was concerned I would have to shorten my lug studs. But 3 out of 4 sets of my wheels have clearance for the long studs! Had to add some more clearance for the steering shaft. And found this great handle for passengers. No welding required! its for a jeep roll bar. Sunshine and almost 70 degrees tomorrow! Photos and video to follow...

Autocross Sunday. Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Getting ready. On grid, the first question always is, "What is it" And the post card picture with palm trees and sunny skies, sorry to depress everyone where it might not be short sleeve weather... And a few pictures before it goes back in the shop. Good news, FENDER BRACKETS ARE ON THE WAY! AND JUST TO WARN EVERYONE, THIS IS WHAT THE CAR FILLS UP WITH, YOU HAIR FILLS UP WITH, YOUR POCKETS FILL UP, AND THEY EVEN MAKE IT DOWN YOUR SHIRT! LOTS OF LITTLE ROCKS...

Okay, my son could only get us to 6th place overall, out of 136 cars(a lot of fast drivers down from Utah) and 1 go kart. We had to unhook the rear sway bar in the afternoon to get that close. I thought the spacers might allow the rear bar to be needed, but our open diff still keeps us for getting a good launch out of the turns. Need to get a limited slip, or heavier spring/front bar. Took a few laps to get use to the new wheel spacers. Still running the stock 1.6 and the alignment is still what we had on the full body car. And we have no clue what to do with the air pressures on the tires yet. The contact patch and temps seem happy with the alignment. Need to do some skid pad work later. Also, Gene has the rear spoiler, waiting on his feedback of that setup. But, anyway, on to the video. Turn up the volume, I am very happy with the exhaust! As you can tell from our laughter, we had a blast!
