Thanks, I'll be using a harnesses too. No need to move once you're in so I'd rather make sure I stay in ;-)

If you can avoid cutting any wireing harnesses especially the one going to the Computer, mine is chopped and it will take me a while to re-wire everything

Wow despite being active on the car and the forum it's 8 months since I posted here. Time to bring you back up to speed... The donor, despite having rear discs, turned out not to want to let me have the rear parts I'd need. I had made a profit on the parts I didn't need so everything left (inc 1.8l, ib5, shafts and loom) was a bonus. I also had a nibbling doubt that did I really want a 2.0 or even an st170? Not being in the financial position to buy the kit just yet I took the plunge on a second donor ? This time it was a 2.0l 1999 Ghia saloon with 99k on the clock. In comparison it fell apart and thanks to a spate of focus drivers not looking where they are going around Derbyshire I've made a profit on this too ? Also I got to drive this one home, and although I took it easy at first, it made me realise that by the time it had been on a large diet the st170 would be overkill for my (initial) needs. So the chassis went last week and I've tidied up the garage so the plan is to now refurb all the bits I'll be using, trim the loom and paint the engine etc before an Easter kit delivery. On top of that I do need to sell the remaining bits from both donors, hopefully to fund part of the kit. I'll try to get more pictures up shortly.

Got the box off the block and removed the clutch before the boss told me it was time for bed!
Quite a lot of oil around the block will need some advice on best course of action there. Still need to find somewhere to host my pictures. ..
How are people mounting the Zetec to engine stands? I was thinking about reusing some of the long accessory bolts padded with washers on 4 of the box mounting holes. Any better ideas?

Well it's on the stand! Quite easy in the end. I used 4x m10 bolts 100mm with 2 screwed directly into the block and 2 through the mounting holes. I used a repair washer either side of the stand and other nuts and washers to effectively space. It feels really sturdy so very happy.

Started my electrolysis this evening too. Attached monster crocodile clips to the ends of a laptop charger, so will probably take a little longer than a car battery charger, but 1 got the charger free from work 2 had read that modern car battery chargers can be no good as they are too intelligent and detect that it's not a battery that is connected
I've rigged it up outside with the power pack in the garage. The garage, bins and a wall are sheltering it on 3 sides with a large plastic box sheltering it from above. Will keep you updated on progress.

So far both rear calliper carriers, a couple of engine brackets, the hand brake mechanism plates have gone through with really good results. The rear callipers are in for their second round, having cleaned the crud off after the first lot.
I got a second batch running thanks to a laptop charger that support deemed too fragile. It's doing the job but I was amazed at how thin the wiring is compared to the oem one!

I'm moving on to the loom strip down next. My plan, which I'd like any comments on please, would be to:
Re-connect & lay it out as per the donor. Identify the items no longer needed and strip them out, making careful notes as I go in case I get overly keen.
As a starter for 10 I was planning on taking out:
Anything for the doors Anything for the boot (except the high stop light) Anything for the electric seats Anything for the airbags Anything for the washers/wipers Anything for the heater/aircon
Can anyone see anything in this list that I should be keeping? BTW I'm planning on only a flyscreen that won't need demist, wipers or washers. Can anyone see anything that might be shared with something I do need?
Thanks

Personally after doing the loom on my exocet i would get the car running using the fully loom once you have the kit and then strip down the loom. That way you can keep starting the car to make sure you haven't cut a wrong wire by mistake. My loom sat in a box for two years until i was ready.

Thanks Trident, I'm keen to do as much as possible in prep, and have a spare loom, so whilst I appreciate your advice I might give it a try before hand.
