Greetings guys. Names AJ, Aged 17, live in Plymouth, Devon. decided to follow my grandad and build a kit. He has handed down me his Kindred spirit which was built in 1991. Now I want something to go alongside it from the modern generation. As for kit decided on the Tr1ke. Asked my dad if I could use his 40 grand R1 as a donor, air went a bit blue. So currently sourcing an R1. Kit not ordered yet ad still awaiting for insurance payout to cover cost, but hope to order very soon. Going for the paddle shift option, with reverse. Right guys the problem I have is, my dad's job works odd and very long hours so to build in the evenings and weekends would be a long option. My dad has said if we can plan get all what is required, he will take 4 weeks off work, and hopefully get it nearly complete. so guys does have anyone have a list of what needs to be purchased to complete the kit, best suppliers for relevant items, any special tools required. What is the hardest part? As for electrics got a good auto electrician on standby to jump in when ready. Garage is cleared ready, but gone for option of having two bottles of drink available at all times.... Ordered St170 rear discs, 4 pot calipers ordered, well early birthday presents many thanks for your time guys. Look forward to hearing from you Aj

Welcome to the forum AJ,
Have you any idea which model r1 you're going to use, as this will make a difference to the time you will need to complete the kit.
1 month is easily doable, I did my carb model in less than that on my own doing it on evenings and weekends.
If you want to know the lengths of cables, hoses and what bolts to get, I don't mind doing a bit of measuring.
But don't you want it to be to your own spec,
Cheers Kevin

Welcome to the forum AJ,
Good to see another enthusiast from the Plymouth area - even if you'll have 1 wheel missing. Sorry but can't help with the Trike requirements as I'm building a Rocket.
Best of luck with your build

Kevin, Cheers for your reply. Going for the carb option, life easier, plus can tweek a few things on the carb side. Personal touch yes. Just want ideas what I should be looking at purchasing so I can start getting things on the bench in anticipation on the arrival of the kit. Handbrake seems a big issue, can you get that as a kit? Must it go to the back wheel? Also having issues with alloys everyone I approach wants to sell me 4, is there anyone we use for Two? Got ideas in my head to make it personal, but like everyone depends on what's in the budget at the time of buying.
Thanks again for your help
Aj

I had no problem getting 2 wheels, you're best bet is to ring the vendor direct.
You can make your own bracket for the hand brake or buy 1 from rtr, we use a hispec caliper. I don't know if it has to be at the rear but I think it has to be cable operated for the test so not easy if you want it at the front.
To help with the build it would be a good idea for you to visit ether a tR1ke owner or go to rtr to take loads of measurements.

I think it a pretty poor effort on your dad's part.
You would have thought he would at least allow you to take his R1 apart for practice.
That way when you come to actually build it mean less wasted time as you would know how things worked.
I would ask him again.

Welcome to the fun AJ, I would say you could run an elaborate setup to the front calipers for Hand bRake, but for ease of everything I would recommend fitting the SVA caliper first, get it through the test and then replace with a Hydraulic handbrake. You can't beat the holding power of the hydraulic handbrake. As long as you design the handbrake to activate and release the locking side of things with the same hand, there should be no problem it going through an MOT, or so my tester is leading me to believe, but it has to be on its own isolated system, which most are. My handbrake is so good that on the steepest hill I could find in Huddersfield with a trailer on it just held it effortlessly. I have the Hi Spec SVA caliper for sale if you fancy a bargain, and once you are through the test you can also sell it on? New price on the HiSpec SVA caliper is £65 plus vat plus a cable, so you are looking at about £108 all in I think, will let this go for £70 all inc postage to you via UPS
Its a black caliper.
I bought my wheels from a seller on Locost Builder forum, many people buying wider wheels for the back of type 7 cars normally have a pair of fronts for sale. I got my two Team Dynamic 1.2 Pro Race this way, paid £70 and they were new.
Let me know if you want the caliper
