Thought I’d start a build diary for my Atomic, the 10th one sold and, I think, the 3rd version of the chassis with a driver side specific single rollover hoop. It is definitely going to be the only one on the Isle of Man for some time I suspect. The plan is to use it for trackdays, hillclimbs and drag racing and if its going to be sunny I may use it to commute in – not too sure yet! I bought most of the bits I need from RTR inc seat/lights etc collected them in October 2012 and picked up a 2007 R1 engine complete with ecu, coil pack and lockset on the way home. The build is going slowly due to our toddler, every time I have any free time she is asleep so no noise! Pictures tell a thousand words so here is progress to date.. Just off the van Front hubs and bonnet on to see how it looks Diff and driveshafts Front plus “helpers” I am now at the stage of having all hubs and discs on, driveshaft/diff in, steering rack on, full flat floor cut, steering column/wheel in and front wing stays on. Next up is engine and prop shaft before I look to source wheels/tyres and the remaining few items The manual for this is not great but the parts are similar to both the tr1ke and Rocket so have looked at those as well as tech help from RTR when its not clear. Will post more when I get a chance as the object is to be done for the end of next May…

Bit of an update: engine is now in and wheels bought - cracking deal for brand new prorace 1.2 & toyo 888 at half price off a mate who had them in his garage. Next up is to fit cycle wings and fuel tank together with the central bulkheads. Slow going with a toddler but at least progress is being made.

Good progress here! Don't get bothered on the pace. It took me a year to build my tr1ke and an other 10 months to get her street legal, insured etc and now winter sets in so no driving for an other 5 months. I'm looking forward to make the first inches on engined power Just do it right the 1st time. No joy in rework later! good luck! erik

Cheers Eric, I think a timetable is more of a hindrance than a help really. I have done a few more bits but am really feeling it by not buying a bike to strip for parts, that would have been much easier, however the house came first at that stage!

Hi Tom, I feel your pain regaring the donor parts. I was having trouble finding a front wheel and caliper for my Eco-exo-r I am building now but you really need to make the extra miles. i hope the additional needed parts do match the engine. Good luck!
I'm always running out of time these days. Hard to keep some pace in my projects. The good thing is you have more thoughts to waste how to build it well and it will be worth the wait.
greets! Erik

Started to lay the bodywork on at the weekend, it's at this point it starts to look like a car, even though there are lots of bit missing from underneath!

Hi Tom
I know I cheated and bought mine already built but it will definitely be worth it when you're done. I've got a trackday booked for Monday 14th and cant wait to really see what it can do!!!
Good luck with the rest of your build :-)

Hi Nelson,
Enjoy the trackday, let me know how it goes! I am aiming to have mine sorted by the end of this year but wary of a deadline!

Finally got the rear spoiler on and made a start on the fly screen and wing mirrors, may even finish those off tonight! Had a bit of help too, well not so much help as "Can I help?" followed by picking up anything and bashing stuff! MikeB - not sure on the ratios in the diff, its from an E36 BMW, presume RTR could say which one. At least there loads about and should be easily upgradeable in future.

Ratio is 3.38/1 which is pretty perfect and will 133 mph at 13,000 rpm on 195-50/15 tyres.
Spot on in our opinion.

Well, what can i say, you boys will not be disappointed! Had a brilliant day, car handled like a dream, so much fun. Even when i made a couple of mistakes it was so easy to get back under control and i'm a novice. Only issue was the sound levels, they are very strict at Bedford, static test limit is 101db and i was 99.5db!! On track it is 87.5db so was advised to be cautious near the sensors so had to hold back a little bit. Oh yeah, if you haven't planned to fit a fuel gauge i would strongly advise it, its not easy peering into the tank all the time :-)

Can someone with a fully built Atomic do me a favour and post pictures of the clutch and accelerator cable fixings at both pedal and motor ends and the routing as I need to source cables and want to make sure I get the right ones!
Thanks Tom
