Looks like I need to source one of these (same bolt position, but from a non-AC car - lifted image from Someone else solving the same issue: The consensus seems to be if you can't source this bolt, M8 x 1.25 .... either 45mm, or at a push 50mm with a washer (I'm definately more inclined to go with the 45mm option). I need to double check the original (how much thread it had on it) but I suspect I should be OK to just cut it down?

I would cut original down.. Put a nut on first then cut to length and file smooth run nut off..

29/11/2013 - Kit comes homeWas a long day, 7 1/2 hrs of driving with the friday night traffic but so worth it. Thanks to my co-driver/loader Ben, Stuart for the great kit and Julie for helping us get loaded up (clearly a dab hand at it!). All tucked away in the garage last night... Though i'm going to have to re-organise it before i can do any work

17/12/2013 - I need a dollar, dollar, dollar is what I need....Not much happening at the moment for 3 reasons: 1) I'ts christmas - enough said. 2) I have no budget at the moment for the powder coating, clutch kit, seats etc (see 1) 3) I could tackle the floor and some of the pipework... but I wanted to wait until I had prepped the holes for the seat runners and belts first so I made sure I wasn't going to end up knocking out rivets again.... and I don't have these yet (see 2) So I'm a bit stuck right now. To keep myself occupied I've been looking at the two more difficult choices I have to make in the near future - seats and wheels. Lets do seats first. I liked the look of the JK Composites ones, but basically my arse is to big for the ones that fit the size I have, and the same is going to apply to nearly all of the bucket seats. I can fit into a FF1600 by virtue of the fact that it's pretty much just me, the chassis and a few strategic bits of foam but I don't think the same strategy is going to pass IVA So I've started looking for a more conventional 'flat squab' type seat, but narrow enough to fit. The current contender is the Cobra Roadster 7. Cobra Roadster 7 (cheapest price seems to be www.motorspeed.com if you want harness slots) It'll definately fit the drivers side - passenger side is going to be seriously tight, as a floor mount definately not but on runners (or equivalent spacing) I might just sqeak it as the tunnel has a steep slant on the passenger side so widens quite quickly with height. With a smidge of a twist I think it can be done, but I won't know for sure until I offer it up. Did look at intatrim but nobody seems to pick up the phone there.... another contender was the westfield seats (sans westfield logo). Any other contenders? On the wheels front - I'm making life difficult for myself by trying to avoid fitting spacers. Any spacer over 20ish mm is going to to put undue load on the bearings and as a daily driver that will rack up reasonable miles that's a concern. But finding ET15 wheels with the right rim / width is a PITA. I know the build guide specs 195/45 on 16" rims but honestly, there isn't a huge amount in it going for 15" with a slightly higher profile... the sidewall change is so slight I'm not getting too hung up over it... at this point, it's much more important to get the right offset to clear the stays.

15/01/2014 - Try before you buy, much pondering and Credit Crunch!OK, it's been a while without updates here - but things are starting to move. First off - took my yearly trip up to Autosport, except this time instead of looking for kit for racing I was looking for seats and bits for the kit car. I stuck my backside in pretty much every seat it would fit in, talked to all of the wheels guys, looked at bushes, shot the breeze about piping etc. Missus & kids were in tow (a first) and we all had a good time. Spotted the Mevster in the air and MEV elsewhere; had a good chin wag, fair to say there was alot of buzz about the MEV cars which is always a good thing. So I went away from the show and I pondered and I pondered... and basically I came to the decision that I was going the wrong way on the seats. Great as they are, the Cobra Roadster Seats don't really "fit" with the idea of a minimal-trim, lightweight kit car. After thinking about it, I wasn't entirely sure any upholstered seat would do it unles it was truely minimal, and the few I saw didn't float my boat. So I took alot of detailed measurements at different heights and had a long chat with the J K Composites guys again.... we reckon it's possible to get a seat 1cm wider than I thought into the car and that makes the difference. So I bit the bullet and clicked 'go' on a pair of JK's with Base Mounts and pads. Should have them in 4 weeks I've also got my eye on a set of Pro Race 1.2's in the correct offset (no need for spacers), just need to sort out some spigot rings - 73.1 OD, 54.1 ID?). But I haven't ordered those yet as I don't need them as soon/less lead time on them. And some other parts... but all in good time Which leads me to the last bit... I'm still brassic, but I'm sick and fed up of not being able to get on with the build. So I've stuck the seats plus a fair amount of other stuff onto the credit card. Didn't really want to be doing this on the never-never but it's either than or wait til March. So hopefully, things will be moving along shortly. Watch this space!

Triton seats do a 'wider' GRP seat mate and very good value, just need to measure the MX5

I know... the sad news though is that triton went out of business just before Christmas shame.

20/02/2014 - Just a little bit of progress...Hi guys - sorry I've been a bit quiet on the build blog, truth be told not a huge amount has happened between lack of hours to put in and lack of funds. However a few small amount of progress is still being made. For example, I had a great time removing the bushes with the power of FIRE: (was struggling to press them out and... you know... what man doesn't like FIRE?) Also.... I got some interesting packages in the post! Can you guess what it is yet? ... ... ... ... That's right - seats! JK have done a real good job on them, from what I can see - haven't had a chance to put the rails on to do a true trial fit, but using a few bits of wood to mock up they do seem to be OK (tight, but OK).

Thanks. I'm really impressed with the finish and quality of the one I've unboxed so far - I'll take a few more pics later but there is bracing around the shoulder area, trim around all the cutouts, the base mount option has captive M8's already lined up for the OMP seat runners.... and the pads again are extremely well done and a very close match for the GRP (the light makes it look a little more pastel coloured than it actually is).
