I can see the management will have to add to the car list below. So the cat is out of the bag! I was going to tell you all when it was closer to production but we are well on the way now, the pattern looks brill, even though I say it myself. I have started the chassis and the mould work will commence on Monday after the heavy build up of primer on the pattern has cured over the weekend, it's slow as it's cold. Our laminating shed is not heated as I don't work in there much! Yes it will be offered as a comprehensive kit at below 5k . It is a personal self indulgent car, one that I have always loved. It's just a shame I don't make enough money from selling low cost kit cars to buy an original at £20,000,000 YES 20 million, that is what one of the original 5 is offered at today. I will post pictures end of Jan when it's on it's wire wheels. I have them in the shop now and keep looking over at them and smirking! In the meantime here is a vid of the original being driven by Mr Cobra Carroll Shelby in 1959, looking a little different as the wheel arches were altered later. !

This looks absolutely stunning. Be interested to see how this goes on. Something for a future project with a Jag straight 6. Keep us posted Stuart.

Thank you for your positive comments guys. I have had an email this morning re a bike engine version and Squelch seems keen on using his Jag lump in one. There is oodles of space in the engine bay but we should consider the effect moving the C.O.G That said V8's have been fitted in MX5's before but I have not had the pleasure of driving one on the limit. A V8 would be awesome in the DBR1 and I am happy to provide a service free of charge with regards to possible alterations to suspension for customers ordering a kit with alternative power plant desires. I am considering Ed's approach to his white Exocet, a 1.8 MX5 engine with a supercharger and 220 bhp!

what sort of power will the chassis handle as the supercharged V8 runs 371bhp at the wheels through an auto box (about 450bhp at the flywheel) and a fair amount of torque i will admit i am in the process of supercharging the Exocet and have most bits already, just waiting for the christmas bonus to order the Megasquirt and intercooler then i can work out how im going to fit the Eaton M62 supercharger (i dont think the M112 off the Jag will fit the MX5 1.8 lol)

i know the dimensions probably wont work but it would be so good to be able to drop the body on to an exocet style chassis with the mx5 running gear (no doors needed possibly)
Im only saying this as i have the mx5 in the garage with the body off
Really am looking forward to seeing the finished article - good work mr Mills

It will be available in kit form about 5k allthough not sure what is included in that. Im still building an exocet and was thinking of building a tribute mx250 kit using a mx5 as a next cheap project but this has changed my mind can't wait to see it in the flesh.

Stuart please share the love.
Welshy I was thinking about the sammio originally but really like the mev engineering which is why I was planning to go down the exocet route and have a stripped mx5 in the garage
This is Christmas come early for me........ I hope

Hi you guy's, welshy1 is correct, its based on Mx5 with an exocet type chassis. Scott and I were very privileged to see the DBR1 when visiting Mev HQ the other day and were blown away, absolutely fantastic, what a stunning shape. The Exocet was our first build and always thought a Cobra would be our dream machine, this has all changed now, its a DBR1 for us, roll on 2013 can't wait. In my opinion it will make the Sammio and Tribute look 2nd rate and with Mx5 performance, reliability and handling it'll be a winner.
Thanks Jules n Stuart, regards Jeff
