Hi fellow builders. I have recently ordered my Exocet and thought I would introduce myself. Im Matt and Im and alcoholic.......hold up wrong place for that. I brought a doner a couple of months back, long story short, had a few dramas, was meant to be an 1800 not a 1600, ended up swapping it with a local dismantler, Ross from MX5Mart. He delivered an 1800 model with a service history that some pore fellow had put backwards through a fence. So now with a car partly stripped and no workshop I decided it was time to unpack all my workshop and get it set up (I have recently moved form christchurch in the south island to The Waikato up the north island). Now I have a working space I can get started on stripping and cleaning up all the bits i need whilst I await my kit to be built. I have started with a resetting my odometer to 000000

Matt, that's an awesome luxury of space you have there! Great to see you have started your blog - all we need to do now is build you your chassis etc!

Matt, good luck with the build. One question, where's the bed for those late nights when you get carried away with the build Certainly enough space. Great workshop. Hours of fun ahead.

Got to spend a couple of hours on the donor over the weekend, all stripped down and the body is ready to come off but it was wet out so that will have to wait until one night after work to lift the top off.

Don't forget the E brake cable, ground to PPf and ground to body by exhaust header.. they will stop you dead in the air..

Great work. Think your steering wheel maybe slightly out of alignment??! I bet everybody has done the same thing having removed the body!

got to spend a couple of hours in the shed over the weekend so stripped the chassis down into many bits ready for cleaning and painting. Still don't know if I'm going to replace the bush's yet, I do need a couple new engine mounts though.

The engine mounts are a known weakness and i would advise all would be exocet builders to check them. My passenger side one was gone with the rubber separated. I changed them both

Don't really think you will need the 6 speed box.. Did you get the shifter with it (5 sd one won't work).. When you go to fill the box with lube make sure you pull the right plug to fill.. wrong one will drop the linkage inside.. Why did you go to solid engine mounts??

The reason for the 6 speed are they are stronger and they have shorter ratios. I know some people complain that they have to change gears to often e.t.c but I love it. As for the engine mounts again Im used to solid mounts and the plan is for a bit of track work and more power.
