Thanks Steve for the suggestion, I will try to use a blow torch. Also have PMd Paul and will see if i can borrow his tool. Here is where i got to so far with the conversion: Undoing the Tie rods, was not difficult. Getting Slipper plug and assembly out. Got really stuck at this point. Hammer and screw driver would not budge it. So i gave up and re-assembled it so that I can at least make some progress on the car and sort out the steering column extension.

Once the steering rack and column were on the car i could measure up and angle grind a bar to make the steering column extension. One end for steering column Both ends done. The other end to fit the KA UJ. Then proceeded to fit some Rivnuts for the 1.6 Focus Radiator. 1.6 radiator now fitted. Moved onto the Wilwood pedal assembly. Joker Pedal parts in the box, did fit temporarily so that i could work out how to route the steering column ext. Not taken a good pic yet as I need to find someone to weld the pedal. Next bits are to make the side panels. I have the donor/focus edge trimmings too so will see if that will go onto the panel. Bob

Managed to cut the side panels last night. too a while to cut then fit then re-cut... The focus/donor edge trimming needed to be cut as it was too thick but the outer edge seems to look ok. From the inside there is a bulge but it won't be visible so I am not bothered about it. Also drilled the holes in to the frame to fit it. Got 2 rivnuts in then the tool broke so need to get another one. Was £12 so you get what you pay for I guess.

I found that drilling and tapping the chassis rails to mount the panels much easier, and simpler than rivnuts.
I've used 10mm long, 4mm button head Allen bolts.
You can't tighten them gung ho style, but the chassis tubes are plenty thick enough.

Thanks Steve. A I have loads of rivnuts so was going to use them. My tap and die skills are not that good so rivnuts is safer for me.

About that, 2mm sounds familiar. I cheat and use a 3.2 mm drill bit, and the 4mm tap in a variable speed cordless drill. Nice and low speed, and the torque set nice and low. Bit of oil on the cutting tap. All my panels are held in like this. It's nice and quick when you get a rhythm going

Managed to get the wishbones on. I did not have a M18 tap and die tool so through a recommendation found a local engineering firm that taps out the threads on the wishbones for me. it surprising how much powdercoat there was in there. I actually initially tried to force the bolt in but ended up crimping the threads. Fortunatly it was not too bad the the engineers cut 10mm of the bolt so that I could get it on. I thought the actually fitting was going to be easy but the rears were a very tight fit and I needed a hammer and other tools to coax it in. Also put the springs in. The fronts went in surprisingly easy and make me wonder whether I was doing something wrong. There is a huge space between the bushes and chasis links. So I put some spacers in. I wonder if other builders had the same problem. Do I use spacers or hammer the 2 ends closer to the bushes? Now the problem is that the nut does not go in all the way. May need longer bolts. Started putting the fronts hubs on. May need to get some more bolts as the heads of these bolts are right up against the edges which means I cannot turn to tighten them. Put a few on anyway to see how they fit on he car. Then did the rears. Will try to complete the rest this week. Bob

Hi,
Regards to the front upper wishbone spacing washers, try to set the wishbone as far back as you can. I found on my previous kit car it helped the self centering of the vehicle. It's easy to alter at a later date though if you need to do it.
I also found for the front hubs, and carrier mountings, that Allen headed cap bolts (high tensile) went in very nice. The bolts were a pita to try and torque correctly.
Looking good though fella;)

Thanks Steve. I will adjust the spacers as you suggest and just about to order the Allen headed bolts now.
