17" vs 16"wheels. The gold/black Rocket has 16"wheels www.roadtrackrace.co.uk/rtr_rocket_gallery.htmlIf you browse to the "MEV Rocket at I.S.T.S Silverstone" you can see an 17" wheel just behind the Rocket for comparison. The 16" version has been recommended by RTR for the Tr1ke. The 17" versions are heavier but for most of us the way to order for cosmetic reasons. (food for thoughts: bevel wings for 16"wheels?)

I have a pair of really substantial 5 spoke 17" alloys, they are really heavy compared to my Team Dynamics. The Dynamics feel to be as light as Magneseum, although I know they are not, so bigger doesn't always mean heavier. :-)

oops. I posted in the wrong thread! Copied+pasted the last post in my MSVA thread now. I have posted some research in this thread about wheels weight and the OZ ultraleggra are by far the lightest. I did read some comments the 17" on the Demo Tr1ke are too heavy, but if one isn't circuit orientated I don't think one should keep unssprung weight as prio#1 but one may have to chose a light weight brand. heavier wheels do have more inertia and I to expect the demo tr1ke has a short rack installed which results in a "heavier" control feeling. I still do not fancy the slight balooning tires on the 16" (and 15"!!) wheels and IMO it spoils the looks over the rear 205/40/17 tire as a whole. I am very fond of 17"wheels+ stock steering rack which should maintain the easy control but with the steeringwheel rotation of a normal car. I just need to get used the looks of that 16" wheels on the Rocket and I may order the 16" just to be different LOL!!

Ok small update. Yesterday I made up my mind and odered the wheels: Momocorse anthraxite 7.5x17,4x108,et35,63.3mm dia hole and yokohamas 205/40/17 because they look cool on the demotr1ke.Time of delivery is unknown yet because it has not been in production yet!! possible late May 2012. RTR did their homework and I guess they will be pleased by my shameless copy. I just wasn't happy with the looks of the 16"s under the wings. They still do look a bit "odd". because of the higher inertia of the heavier 17" wheels I will not use the short rack. The R1 has been dissasembled, packed and advertised within 21 hrs (including shopping for tools). I only need to remove the tires from the wheels which are still good enough for a 2nd life on the track (3mm deep grooves). If you could see the smile on my face advertising close to 4000euro of R1 parts on the net LOL!! And still typing the adds while cleaning the motor;) if I would be able to sell 50% I would be a happy man already for NOT buying a crashed bike. Still all wiring is in place and I wouldn't be suprised if the motor starts running if i connect the battrie to the leads.

Still no news of my kit, but I have been very busy cleaning the R1 parts and some shopping . Finally, after browsing for a few months I am starting to get a nice composition of accesoires in my head Still not 100% about what gauges and switches to use (waterproof?). Finally I have decided on the colors of my seats. Now I have to select a suitable color of the bodyparts. I found several colors which may match the maroon of the seat leather. On the bottom pic you see: Ford Fiesta2011(purple), Corvette (Maroon candy or metallic, not sure) and Alfa Romeo (plain paint + Yellow ) At this moment I am leaning towards a mix of these pictures: candy purple + yellow. I have seen the Ford Fiesta color for real and it is a very , very hard color of purple which matches a kitcar. The yellow will match with the Sabelt. On the RTR homepage there is a Atomic Gulf sheme which may be copied or some Herbie racing numbers ;D . I do fancy the classic racing aera and may adopt some detals to make the bodywork look more agressive. IMO a plain colored body is not too impressive when viewed through a rearviewmorror . At first I liked Atomic body over the Tr1ke (still do) but history shows a lot of nice variations on the classic Tr1ke body. This will be fun!

Euhm. I wished I could write a good update but all I can say is that RTR starts making my kit medio april , The body color will be white but the type of wings has not been specified yet. Oh,well.. that's not too bad actually. I have been doing research for a few months now and I have completed my wishlist of accesoiries for about 90% . I rejected my steering wheel and just ordered an expensive one. The one I bought was too cheap in relation to the wheels and seats I ordered LOL!! It's a one in a lifetime project The only thing that is itching me for now is the rear spring issue and the IVA approved buttons. They don't seem to be splash proof approved and look like industrial switches I don't like. I still haven't decided if i would use the original R1 switches or not. I think the electrical will be the last minute order. I may reject my gear knob as well later. not sure yet. greets! Erik

Newsflash!
I sold my R1 frame today! Total value of sold parts covers close to 50% of the R1 purshase, still have 2100euro of adds waiting to be sold. If I manage to sell the fuel tank I'd be very close to have all needed parts for this tr1ke for the price of a bare engine. FYI. Purshased the R1 on 10feb 2012: 9 weeks ago!
Still nothing worth mentioning. Made my list of accesoisies but no detailed list of small parts. I am in doubt when to pull the trigger to order the accessoiries.

I bought all my gear when it was either a bargain or as and when I needed it. Sometimes you get great bargains on eBay. Other times you just have to bite the bullet and pay full price. Doo you still need me to do a maroon Tr1ke on Photoshop for you?

I'd love to see a maroon tR1ke (with the yellow nose job??)!
After reading the cooling issues and possible indicator issues on the Venom headlights it got me thinking to go back to basics for starters. a nice side effect is to save a considerable amount on cooling tubes, swirl pod and radiator bottle+hardware.Removing all pipework an loom in the tunnel makes it worth reconsidering to bin the tunnel itself as well and create some place for a small case/sportbag/umbrella,Tomtom etc. Unfortunately, I cannot hit nails without actually having the chasis at home...
I am waiting for Gaz's Rocket to pass IVA. It has the Venom headlights and may have it's licence plate any day. The rocket forum has great craftsmen too!
I have experienced major backorder delays on my jet projects. Sometimes up to 3 months for 0.5kg of aircraft grade resin. For this reason only already have ordered the seats and Momos (guess what: not in production yet!). I am leaning towards ordering the parts in short time notice to eliminate the time sitting in the tr1ke pretending it has been licensed and wondering what went wrong me being a retard behind the steering wheel immitating the sound of a Ferrari LOL!!

YEAH! That's pretty close what I am looking for. recently I have seen the Ford Fiesta 2011 purple passing by and was very similar to what you made but more "nuclear". The color matches the classic GRP work. The yellow is planned less bright and wider (up to the Naca duct on the sides) for creating the rearviewmirror-rubbernecking curiousity LOL! Must be a neat match along with yellow Sabelt belts shown is a pic posted earlier on the Rocket. i was planning to paint the Aero Wings maroon as well. Along with the Venom headlichts i think this might be a pretty unique apearance. I am leaning towards fenced cooling slots in the bodywork for more agressive appearance. I ordered the same momos as on the pic, but anthraxite colored to match with a painted dashboard. Anthraxite is a good background for the black R1 panel and Savage switches. Oh yeah, yelow shocks look great too!
thx! Erik
