Sorry Guys
I have been locked in the garage (aka The Matt Cave) for several weeks. The recent cold snap has driven me out and while I was polishing my spanners this thread has sprung up!
Stuart has been very brave asking for suggestions from people that don't have to stump up the money, how do we hold our selves back. I can imagine the cost of tarmac is quite expensive.
I like the idea of turning it into a circuit (of either of the above designs) as this may allow a car to start before the other has finished and help provide more action for the drivers and passengers. Any way, here are my opinions on what could be done
First priority is safety. Nothing ruins a track day like going home in an ambulance. run off areas at both hair pins should be smooth and firm (to stop a tyre digging in and rolling the car) and a tyre wall against any thing solid that we can hit. Tyre walls should allow running in both directions, that way you get two circuits for the price of one. Spectator areas should be close enough to feel part of the action but not in the line of fire from the straight. Spectator parking and paddock area should be away from the circuit.
Second priorates a track design that gives options is always good. The circuit as shown offers two routes, clockwise and anti clock wise. by adding not much more tarmac some more options can be added 1. adding a 'bus stop chicane' on the straight means you can do the circuit CW or CCW with the chicane in both directions, one direction or neither direction. now you have 6 different options for the addition of one small extra piece of tarmac 2. filling in the inside of the junction where the straight joins the big loop. this way instead of just going around the circuit you can run up the straight, do a complete rotation around the big loop and then return on the straight.
3. By adding some tarmac to the small loop on the outside of the corner cones can be used to change the profile of the bottom corner. the curves are all a bit similar at the moment, but adding some extra tarmac on the outside gives options for the corner profile and more run off if it all goes horribly wrong.
Spectator facilities elevated positions are great to get a view of the action, and some painted lines on the track to allow timing keeps children of all ages involved. toilets are also quite useful
Ill try to add a picture of what i am on about. I think these are all ways of adding flexibility for not much tarmac
Cheers

Here are my suggestions idea 1 - the 'mattsmev chicane' allows the chicane to be used in both, either or neither direction. It just gives options on the layout and also means the pace can be started slowly and increased as the day goes on idea 2 - the 'magic round about' gives the option of a full loop around the big end of the circuit. great drifting for the excocet guys idea 3 - the 'tight corner' allows cones to be used to change the bottom corner. can be used at the start of the day to keep the pace down and then change the corner after lunch to make it faster. only ideas, but none of them are too much more tarmac see you all next year Mattsmev

our very own MEV track. snob value is off the scale! just an idea, i wonder if it would be worth those interested in making suggestions to go for a little visit to MEV HQ around february time. Maybe too cold for kits, but im sure a little drive around in a tin top would be beneficial to suggesting improvements. IM IN ;D first social of the year too! Will

Not a bad idea Will, depends on when etc, but count me in too.
Can we walk the track like the sprint guys at Curburough? I'll bring my pipe

Nice idea, we should have it say at the end of Feb on a Sat morning then a 2-4-1 lunch to discuss. We can also have a dress rehersal of the MEV theatre production for the presentation that the MEV owners are hopefully going to stage with me and help to orchestrate for the shows next year. If you fancy auditioning for a part and you are not too shy then please let me know.

The MEV casting couch is open for business. Four members will be expected to make fools of themselves and dress up as mad professors and then build a MEV in 10 minutes at Stoneleigh etc. Please step forward and state which show you will be available to perform at. Don't worry full training will be given and you will not need an equity card

Fantastic Andy, you Will, Nige and Aid will look so cool in a grey wig with a mustashe and big glasses and a white coat with MEV TEKNISHUN on. Hope I am not giving too much away! That's Stoneleigh sorted, may do it all again at Newark and Donny if it goes down well.
