Hi. Iv'e just re-fitted my IB5 gearbox that as been stripped so consequently there was no oil left in it. The haynes manual says it takes 2.3 litres and apparently it's pretty crutial it's about 15mm below the fill plug. Mine will only take 2 litres and it's completey full too the point of it dripping out. I assume this is because the engine is set at more of a angle in the rocket than in the focus. As anybody come across this and is it anything i need to worry about?. thanks John.

I had the exact same thing happen a few weeks ago with my Sonic. I jacked the front of the car up so I could then get the full 2.3lt in.
Cheers Steve

Thanks for reply Steve, that's exactly what i thought about doing jacking the front up, if you follow the recommendation of 15mm below fill plug in it's existing position i reckon you could be as much as 500 ml short, which on a 2.3L capacity is a lot.

Couple of places but I noted the 2.8l the other day on Burtons website when looking for a new selector shaft seal.
Had another look and I see both quantities and some in between mentioned in various places
It could be 2.3 for a change as you cant get all the oil out whereas a fill from empty will take more.
Tbh I just fill mine until it overflows, I don't worry about the "15mm below" either.

My SVT 6 speed is the same way just fill it to the point it starts to run out the filler hole. Don’t know about engine tilt. Mine sits exactly level in both front to back and left to right.
